HDQ sits right off the freeway. They could have little transport shuttles going from the bus stop to HDQ. SOC is in eye sight of the freeway and I could walk (depending on the drop off point. It’s a cheap (compared to building a trans system from scratch) and the amount of relief it would produce would be phenomenal.

Well, I've been taking the train to/from HDQ for the past three years, as have about 800 other people who work at CP4/CP5, SRO/FSU/GSW, and DFW. It saves me at least a tank of gas per month, which right now is close to $90, not to mention all the money I used to spend going out for lunch.

But that only works if you live near the light rail in Dallas, or in central Fort Worth. AA has a deal for reduced rate annual passes, so PM me for details if you're interested. TRE Website

Since the conversation was about the current gas price debacle and the term "ricer" was used, I thought it appropriate to compare a Hummer or a Suburban to a fuel efficient Japanese automobile.
I am not crticizing those who drive an SUV or a pickup truck to make a living. I do, however, criticize the soccer moms and dads who need to drive a status sympbol like the Hummer, Suburban or Escalade around the neighborhood averaging 12-15 mpg.
I am guilty as well as I own an SUV which is very useful in hauling building supplies back home when I do work on the house.It is priceless during the snow days.
But I do drive a fuel efficent import for the commuting and running around town.

I have long been in favor of higher gas prices - higher gas taxes should have been enacted long ago. Had our politicians had the fortitude to bump it a nickel or dime a year for the past 20-25 years, many people would have thought twice before buying a gas hog as their daily driver/commute vehicle.

And I'm a right-wing conservative. A Republican (that's your cue, NH/BBs!!) advocating higher taxes!

My view is that price is a decent way of allocating the stuff we'd all like to get tons of for free (or nearly free).

For instance, everyone would like to fly First Class every time they fly, and if F fares were capped at $200 each way, they'd sell out very quickly. But reality is that F is more expensive and tougher to get.

When gas is cheap, nobody has an incentive to conserve it. Extremely rich people will be able to afford it no matter the price, but the vast majority of people can be convinced to conserve if the price is high enough. If current prices remain for a while (or go up), most people will be forced to re-think their wasteful ways.

Painful? Yep. Necessary? I think so. Medicine that's good us almost never tastes very good.

a few of us are starting to ride our bikes to the hanger from the NRH, Watauga, Keller area....takes about 45 min on the new paved trail. a little sketchy at night but really nice going home in the morning.

It is due to his sell out work that some of us have to live in an RV in the parking lot. And it seems to be expanding every week. All this while little Jimmy has recieved double digit pay increases every year. And not to mention a new position with the normal no vote allowed TWU!!!

I've seen a few motorhomes parked in back of the SRO and at the Flight Academy, so it isn't just the AMT's and FSC's.

If/when I transfer, I plan to live out of my fifth wheel in a parking lot for at least a month until I figure out if/where to move. Got solar panels so I don't need to run the genny, and with DirecTV mounted to the ladder, it's got all the comforts of home. Plus, there's no lawn to mow or water, and if I don't like the neighbors, I can just hook up and move a couple hundred feet down the row. Try that with an apartment or a rent house.

Gald to see you can "choose" this lifestyle with pride, while the peons are forced into the situation. Maybe everyone isn't as proud or happy about it as you seem to be though?

Since nobody is forced to work for AA, nobody is forced to choose this situation.
