Power Port Removal-airbus Narrow Body

Although possibly a step in the wrong direction, I see as many passengers use that powerport as I do the Phones.

believe it or not, i was on a sfo-phl flight recently and needed to use the phone because i had an emergency at work that i found out about just before the plane door closed. the phones apparently had been removed.

oh, and one time, i was sorta intoxicated and decided to make phone calls from the plane.

I just read a rumor on another board that the decision has been made to disable, then remove the power ports on the narrowbody Airbus fleet (319,320,321).

Can anyone confirm or comment?

I guess CCY is doing anything they can in their last breaths to tick off business travelers? I use the ports all the time.....as do many others.

This is about as smart as keeping Crellin....or de-rolling PHL......

My best to you all.....

Art,

It was in catcrew this afternoon that they are going to start disconnectiong them the end of this month. When they go into major matience the arm rest covers will be replaced. However, on the 330 they are still going to have them just not on the 319/20/21.

US1

The Airbus 321 never had the airfones. When those planes rolled out U was having problems with the previous arifone service so they didn't put it on those planes.

Siggghhhhh.

This is really really really dumb.

Bad message to the biz traveller. U competes with AA in lots of markets. AA is not cheapening its FC or cutting off my power.

This is not a silly pretzel issue, this lowers my productivity/pleasure on long flights.

Airline choice is all about fares, schedules and amenities. U has decided to stop competing, I guess.

This is so dumb.

Write to Tempe, scream your head off! They seem to listen to the customers more than those knuckleheads at CCY.

How does one write to Tempe or their Consumer Affairs?

well, the 321's apparently never had Airfones, so don't try to call from one of them when you find your power port is covered up.

Honestly, do the HP people think it is worth forwarding comments to Mr. Parker?

I never said the Airbus had airphones. I have always known that they never had airphones on the 321.

Well it can't hurt to write or call both US Airways Consumer Affairs 866.523.5333 or to write from the website. I will also try to contact HP too. I think the more that get on board with this the better. It's when people sit an do absolutely nothing....well....nothing will happen.

I have already written and will follow up with a phone call tomorrow.

The following CBS message was sent to all pilots on Monday, September 12, 2005:

A corporate study has been completed analyzing the maintenance costs versus the utility of the single aisle Airbus in-seat power ports. A decision has been made to deactivate, and eventually, remove these power ports.

This project will be accomplished in two phases:

- In Phase One, which will begin in September, the power ports will remain onboard, but will be inoperable due to a pulled and collared circuit breaker.

- In Phase Two, which will be accomplished during regularly scheduled heavy maintenance, the power port components will be removed and the seats will be fitted with a faceplate/solid armcap to replace the power port outlet.

This decision will also help standardize our entire Airbus 319,320,321 fleet after the merger.

Jim

Just what are the maintenance costs involved with these systems? How do they measure utility? It is consistent with CCY stupidity....penny wise, pound foolish (probably).

I would buy fleet commonality over economy, but just the same, it stinks for the business traveler.

Thanks for the information all....

What will you do when there is not a CCY to blame for every decision that doesn't sit well with the business traveler. Expect to see more of these reductions amongst the OA carriers once they enter BK.

You and the cockroaches will soon realize that it is not all about CCY so called stupdity once Tempe is running the show. These are tought business decisions that have to be made to enable the company to become a viable carrier.

Don't worry, Crellin still has a lot of pull with the new company and will treat you right.

We know, we know. This is the business travelers fault. It is those darn A fares I purchase. Too bad Deborah Thompson couldn't write this up in her last YOUR FAULT column.
