Pride In Your Airline

Pride in the company I work for (I no longer look at it as MY airline)? Lemme splain it this way, if I am going to make a stop before or after work, I either put on another shirt or hide the logo on the company shirt. If famiy or neighbor asks me questions about air travel when I am off duty, I often ask them to contact me while I am at work....I am on my time now. And yes, I too once wore tee-shirts, caps, belt buckles, had baggage with the company name or logo on it and also gave away as presents "stuff" with a speed bird on it. Went to schools on employement opportunity day and talked about MY airline. Now? I'm paid for 8 hrs work...I give 8 hrs and can't wait for the end of the 8 to arrive.

It's not pride in an airline, it is pride in one self. After 2 BKs and inumerable indignaties? I go to work for me. I pride myself on doing a good job-whether it is digging ditches or serving Coke. The attitude taken to work reflects on the individual first and on the company second. The idea is that an airline(print company,construction company etc.) hires people who will do a good job in their particular field.
Since on the east side, hiring has not taken place in a number of years(and God help us w/ the last batch of new hires- who could care less about customer service- I wish them luck in the new career after they were furloughed.) you have the veterns?, who by being here, obviously want to be here.
I work for personal pride-not for PSA,Piedmont,USAir,
America West, US Airways or McDonalds.
It is interesting to note where a great deal of the complaining comes from-this seems to be a left over from the old hiring days.

I am embarrassed to say that I even work here...and when I do tell someone who I fly for, all they do is b!tch about the last horrible experience they had on this airline---nope, it's no longer my airline either. What a shame.

It's shameful that we have a group of employees who will gleefully STEAL the earned seniority of another. It's a disgrace and a company that will allow that is immoral.

I used to and probably could again but it would take alot. Right now its a joke and I rarely even tell people what I do much less for what company. I used to be proud to walk through the terminal with the wings shining, now I put on a non-company coat over my uniform and try to blend in.

At least you know you needed more room than the phone booth.

And in response to the poll, I try to avoid telling anyone where I work other than "at the airport". Its been a roller coaster the past 21 years. Right now, we're plunging toward the bottom and I'm feeling sick again. :unsure:

It does apply to today. But really what have you added to this "old" thread?
The back biting of east to west is really counter productive.
Does this company make money?(not do the CEO,CFO,CIO make money-but do the stockholders make money? The savings have been born? on the backs of the employees but any concern can not survive without making a profit.) If this company makes money I keep my job and I live to fight another day to recoupe my "stuff".
Add more to the conversation next time.

Bitter, angry people like 700UW, Ardenian, & BoeingBoy will never change and they are the people who will lose by carrying the restructuring resentment with themself day-after-day-after day.

Life is too short to be angry all of the time...

(Though retired now), I had MANY Issues with my former employer,(AA) and "THEIR" union(the worthless TWU) !!


But to be completely honest,.... I never tired of telling friends/strangers/or anyone, that I worked for American Airlines. Perhaps it was because I(SERIOUSLY) never got a "dissatisfied" reply from anyone !!

Maybe it was the(first) frequent flyer program that people liked, or the HUGHLY successful SABRE system they(and employees) liked.

But for ME, (even though it cost U$, through "CHEAP" $$ contracts), the thing I liked the most, was watching former AA Boss.....Bob CRANDALL.."operate" !!

Sure, he "porked" us a time or two, BUT GOD help the "enemy"(other carrier) who tried to tread on AA territory !!!

If you think any of us are bitter, then you are surely mistaken, people like us who actually have a backbone and courage who try to right the wrongs. And stand up against management and inequities.

You would not know anything about that as you are the first in line to bendover and grab your ankles everytime.

I guess if everyone thought like you we would still be under British rule, do you think people like George Washington, Paul Revere and every other patriot this country has seen are bitter?

You really should seek out the EAS.

I try not to tell people that I am an airline pilot. Not that I am ashamed of that fact, but because it inevitably leads to: "which airline." Then I wish I could change the subject.

The reality, though, is that most people say nothing bad or relate a good experience. The ones who start complaining get my stock answer: "Why in the world would you even fly such a lousy airline?"

It comes from the heart, and becomes more true with each passing day. And it invariably takes the wind right out of their sails.
