PSA-Piedmont Merger?

Just the rumor on the street!
Okay, enlighten me. I thought PSA & Piedmont were already merged as part of US Airways? Forgive me, am I wrong or is it like a partnership? (Are they still independent??)

Pied PSA

PSAmont...

hey if you make the P silent it sounds like a french carrier.

How's that for class?

Those airlines merged into then USAir nearly 20 years ago. These are not those airlines, they are named after them.

Over the years US Air/ways ended up with three wholly owned Express carriers. In order to protect the names of the airlines they had bought they renamed the Express carriers after them so no other company could legally use the names. So Henson became Piedmont, Jetstream became PSA Airlines (not Pacific Southwest, PSA Airlines is the oficial name) and I think Penn became Allegheny. A few years ago they merged Allegheny and Piedmont.

US Airways Group is three different airlines- US Airways, Piedmont Airlines, and PSA Airlines. Piedmont and PSA are not like Mesa or Chautaqua or any of those in that they are not contracted, they are actual full owned subsidiaries like American Eagle is to American. They are the "real" US Airways Express if you will as opposed to the contracted version. Employees travel at the same priority as mainline and at one point they had a flow-through system via the Embraer division of mainline which no longer exists.

PSA flies CRJs and Piedmont flies Dash 8s. The rumor is that they are going to merge them into one owned Express carrier which makes sense.

Piedmont Airlines Inc

PSA Airlines Inc

If I recall correctly, The now Allegheny was Pennsylvania prior and before that it was Suburban Airlines. Originally based in Reading, Pa. then moved to Harrisburg,Pa.

Piedmont fly’s DH-8 that Dick Henson bought in the 80’s
PSA fly’s CRJ700 that USAirway bought in the 2000
Piedmont was Henson.(PI)
PSA was Jetstream International. (PI) Flew Jetstream 31's. (Blue stripe on a white fuselage- hence the call sign.)
Allegheny was the merged Suburban and Pennsylvania.(AL)
They were renamed when Pace Airlines (INT) was trying to get the Piedmont name. US either had to use 'em or lose 'em, so they renamed the wholly owned carriers.
Then they merged new Allegheny with new Piedmont to the present Piedmont.
I heard that they were going to merge PSA and Piedmont into Piedmont and have just one wholly owned express carrier. The Piedmont name is still too valuable to let go of. Old Piedmont and the current Piedmont did it proud!

Any idea what aircraft they/it would operate?

No Q400's unless the mainline scope is changed! It only allows up to 69 seats for a TurboProp drivin Aircraft! (Q400 seats 72)

Expect to hear more on this scope very very soon. 😉
Scott Kirby meets with ALPA tomorrow, Tuesday. I understand that this issue is on the table although I don't know for sure...
PS- expect a shake up at PDT/PSA within the next few days/week too.
