I don't know if any of you know the answer but figured this site was a good place to ask.

A friend of mine has just come off a 2 year injury and is trying to get back to work. She was finally cleared by her doctor but was told by the company that she had to go and get fingerprinted in order to be cleared to work.

She had her fingerprints done on January 3rd and has still not been given clearance. The excuse she was given was that the FBI database was either backlogged or down. (which doesn't sound like it could be true)
She was told by some union people that this problem is affecting quite a few people, including the recalls.

Do any of you know anyone else who is caught up in the fingerprinting problem, or who was held up by it, and do you know how long it took to resolve or how long they have been waiting?

Thanks

There are a lot of TWA recallees posting on two other BBs. It does not seem to be a major problem. The first class starts tomorrow.

Have their fingerprints cleared the system though? My friend attended her retraining class and was able to bid a line. She didn't find out her fingerprints had not cleared until the day before her first trip back. That was 26Jan and she has been getting removed from her schedule day by day since that time.

The union people told her that some of the recalls from December had still not cleared the system. I wonder if any of the people attending training now will find they have a problem when they think they are set to go to work?

Well December recalls are all out flying the line. No TWAer has reported being withheld from work.

Chris, there have been minor glitches. Some have had to be finferprinted several times and a few have needed to travel to another city for reprinting. My question is, what happened to the finger prints that are already on file with the FBI?

That was our question too Nancy.

Are any of the people you know still awaiting fingerprint clearance or have they been cleared? Were the ones who had glitches notified about what they might be? We're trying to see if one story coincides with the next.

The main problem was/is not getting a "good" read. Email Tim Hunter for exact numbers. I'm sure he'll be able to assist.

Further problems with fingerprinting occurring. Not AA's fault.

I've talked with friends at Delta and Frontier. It seems that ALL airlines are having problems with this fingerprinting business. Prints are taken, sent in, and disappear from the face of the earth. The airline is told that the prints were bad or were never received. It seems that the mess up is NEVER the government's fault. <_<

Thanks for the answers guys. They are apparently sending the prints again. She was told it was a large group of people and that it was definitely a government thing. I'm surprised we haven't heard about this from more FAs.
I don't get what the hold up is. I guess they are using the same computer as the one they use to run the bids. Run 'em, rerun 'em, run 'em again...........
Its called patience! Something they all have and you need to learn about.
And YOU have it?

How long should they be patient? One month, two? When you are cleared from an IOD you immediately go back to paying your supplemental medical, dental, LTD,STD,union dues. Try doing that without a pay check because your fingerprints are being held up.

I'm asking this out of ignorance - granted, security procedures have been tightened considerably but how much of the runaround referenced is TSA (Thousands Standing Around) required and how much is that of good ol' AA?

my guess 99% TSA, look at the problems with the no fly list

I sure do have it  . They need to call payroll and update them as to what is going on. Is it that hard to pick up the phone and dial the digits?
