Random Web Site with Employee names

I think that is his opinion. I think it is a general opinion of some. I have not heard anything from any of our managers about a sick out. If it is I think AA Stew might have given aa management a reason to have some concern. He or she just admitted what he or she thinks is a sickout from her so called pilot friends. If they wanted to keep it secret and not in any public forum they were doing a good job until AASTEW opened his or her stupid mouth. (Maybe that is what Garfield wanted to pull out of someone).

In the end the VP's will still get their bonuses. Who gets screwed when there is a sick out? Be honest. Not the managers.... Just the average every day people like you and me. Including passengers.

Ask a pilot if the Reno sick out was successful. I doubt any of them will say it was.

There has to be a better way of getting your point across. Ask major news networks to talk about it. Ask that guy from CNN that talks about protecting the working class to do a segment on it. But sick outs to me are not worth it and will not change one thing.

There is allot I agree with Garfiled about and allot I don't. I believe the Execs deserve something. How much I do not know. But I also think that we the average employee is owed something also. As a matter of fact I think we are owed the lions share. Those who had to sacrifice the most should see a higher reward.

Didn't the pilots have their payback "forgiven"?

The Pilots paid a good portion of it. The company allowed them to spread out the payments as to not bankrupt the Union. Then they forgave the rest of the fine. Exactly how much I am not sure.

Maybe a pilot can shed some light on that

Yes, it was touted as "forgiven" as part of the 2003 contract rape. Generally, only a village idiot would look upon the deal as getting a favor. Giving up $600-700 million in order to get out of a $30 million debt actually may seem like a good idea to some folks.

Personally, we should have just paid the $3-4K per pilot to separate it from any future negotiations.

you would not have to have paid a fine at all if it werent for an illegal sick out

At the end of the day the sick out was successful. Remember the company wanted to keep Reno operating as seperate "C scale" on the property. It was not handled very well by the union, and yes it was very expensive. At the end on the day keeping a "c scale" off of the property was probably worth it.
No one knew we would be going through the BK scare a few years later. I think at the time it was the right decision.

The fine was for the contempt ruling from a handpicked Texas judge. After months of legal wrangling, another judge decided the fight was a "minor dispute" versus a "major dispute". Given the later mergers/buyouts like USair/TWA, not fighting Reno could have been devastating to APA.

The sickout, (handled less than perfect IMHO), was the final act of a frustrated pilot group. Carty's game playing with the most coveted part of the APA contract lit the fuse. Also a factor was the endless legal games resulting in years to get any previous disputes solved.

In the end, the pax and the other employees got caught in the middle due to the crappy employee relations.

Operaations, first no need to make this so personal. I have been advised by some of our pilots that they plan on calling in sick. It is not a union activity, I think it is a personal choice. I don't know if they will call in on the 17th, or staggered.
Our CEO refuses to even address this, except to say that he sees no problem.
I am not a huge fan of some of our pilots, but sometimes you do what you feel you need to do.
Unfortuanetly, you cannot make any stand as you have no protection. I understand. Be happy the pilots and flight attendants are doing what they can do. I don't think any of us are stupid enough to cripple our airline more than our CEO and VP's are doing. Have a wonderful evening.

That's funny. A large group of people decided to do the same thing at the same time that all happen to be part of the same club yet the activity is not club related. LOL

I bet the used car sales people love to see you walk on their property.

I guess since a lot of people got sick around the same time during the great Influenza outbreak after WW1(that killed more people than the War) that must have ben an illegal sick out also.

The fcat is that the courts are in the pockets of the corporations and workers and their unions must accept the fact that they must break unjust laws in order to get fair treatment. When the pilots were fined other unions should have walked out in protest. It was through massive economic disruptions and illegal actions that unions were legalized in the first place, thats the same path we must be willing to take in order to get back what we had.

The TWU was too busy with pajama parties and BBQ to get involved.

Just as they are not invovled with any protest (legal or illegal) over the bonus awards.

I do agree with you about the laws and the solution for the working man. However, as long as the AFL-CIO unions believe that through lobbying and invovlement in political campaigns is our answer, we are quite frankly screwed. Unless of course the members, actually take matters into their own hands and acquire complete contempt for the docile leaders and their "friendly" politicians.

Is your reading comprehension really that bad?

What specific group did all the people who got influenza belong too? I missed that part in the history books. Now don’t get me wrong. If the hospitals fill up with patients from all walks of life on the same day(s) that the pilots do then we do not have a sick out but an epidemic.

So, Bob. I have a bridge. A little wear and tear but with a little elbow grease ……

"Successful" is a very subjective term... If you consider the fact that there are currently ZERO airplanes from Reno Airlines being flown as a secondary AMR company, then I'd say the sickout was successful. Carty's attempt to keep Reno as a separate entity was quashed in-part by the sickout. It cost APA 23 million, but how much would it have cost ALL of us if Reno had become another EAGLE? Growing and flying our routes at substandard wages? Ask any agent or ramper who works at a former AA station how it felt to be offered a job at half their pay when the station went Eagle. The APA scope clause is worth fighting for, not just for pilots, but for all of us.
