Somehow, after three years, I got a recall letter today ( Which I still cant beileve cause my senority number was well north of 6K )

1. I got called back to Line maint in PHL, can someone tell me who to call, cause the letter they sent me tells me nothing.

2. How much do US Line mechanics make now?

3. Please try to talk me into/out of taking the position. I would really like to hear the opinions of people still there, especially mechanics.

If you don't have anything going on after three years then take it and look in the mirror and ask yourself if will you ever be hirable and what can you do to be hirable.

Take it!!! If you have been off that long there are many schools you will be able to attend at U's expense in order to be legal to work on the aircraft, i.e. Airbus, 767, 330, Cat, ect. You are probably looking at a month or two of schols at the their expense, and if your lucky they would be in Clt or Pit so the company will foot the bill for meals and lodging. Play their game. It will look good on the resume if you still want to stay in the business. You also start the clock moving on UE and benifits again. The place still s**** to work and the money is now among the lowest in the industry. Line mechs make about 24/hr.

No one needs to talk you in or out of anything. You need to do what is right for you and what YOU think is right for you. A bunch of strangers on a message board should not determine the outcome of your life. Just my thoughts

Call M&E, was PHL your recall station?

Yes, PHL Is my recall station. I dont have any of the numbers anymore.

I do have something going on, but I'm still considering going back. It was my first career, and I chose it cause thats what I liked to do. Now Im really just working for the money.

Of course the desision is my own and I have to do whats right for me, but people on this board who are still there can tell me what it really like now. Line maint used to be a pretty sweet gig, maybe it ain so sweet anymore.

Anybody know where I can download the current contract?

The whole contract is not available yet, language is still being written, the current contract is the same except for what was changed in the last round of concessions, you can get the the changes at :

Final offer

call M&E at 412-472-4262

Just my two cents. You really need to think about what you are going to do. If you go back you will be working Midnights with days off during the week. Thats the first thing to think about.

Next is the pay rate. What are you making now vs what you will make at US Airways. (line mechanics make 24.77/hr)

Couple of posts on here saying you will be sent to school. Yes you will but not right away. (except for line indoc) There are quite a few ahead of you and it will basically be up to management to decided who goes. (seniority no longer plays
a factor although they do tend to stick with the old way of doing things)

It is a personal choice.. If you need to build up some more Commercial Airline experience then I say go for it. If your life is good right now and your a family person you need to think about what it is you are going to undertake.

Long term if you have some background I would consider JetBlue. PHL vs NYC there is not much difference and if you don't want to go to NYC they do have openings in BOS. Starting pay at JetBlue is $23.65 plus experience pay.

I agree with the one poster.. Don't listen to a bunch of people on here including me. Do what is best for you and your family.

Also if your number is in the 6000 range you probably wasn't topped out so your return pay will possibly be in the $16 dollar an hour range, I would get all the info before you quit somewhere else and come back to this lousy company. We get 5 holidays a year now, no shift differential, no paid lunch, no oji bank, no skill pay, and much much more, er I mean less. Our contract is gutted, good luck with your choice.

Dr Evil makes a good point.

If you were not topped out when you were laid off the first time you are going to return to work for really low money.. Think long and hard about it.

$16 an hour to work in PHL midnight with no weekends off is below the word "Suck".

I also forgot about the payscale thing, the money would not be so good. If you feel you must get back into aviation, go back to Phl, pester managment enough that they send you to Airbus school and then bail to JetBlue. They love all the previously trained Airbus mechanics provided them free of charge by this great Usair management team!!!!

I've heard the same from many others who have. JetBlue Looovvvveeess USAirways! The people and the company are very glad to have each other.

Yes they do, one word of advice...If you do decide to return they must send you to indoc. Then if no other schools are offered study the MPP and see what type of work you are allowed to accomplish and on which type of aircraft. Dont go against the MPP otherwise if anything happens the company will hang you out to dry!!!!
