I'm afflicted with this, as are millions of others, men and women, all ages,
mostly older types. It's not really serious, but it is a real nuisance and
prevents the victim from getting a decent night's sleep.
The Princeton Medical Institute in NJ advertised for people with RLS to
participate in a study sponsored by PHARMACIA. I volunteered, and qualified
for the 5 month program. I was diagnosed as having SEVERE RLS Symptoms. I
was paid $50/visit, and an additional $250 upon completion of the course,
about $850, plus free SUMANIROLE, the medication being tested.
I was given one capsule to take every evening. After 2 weeks, I went back
and reported not much help. (There are daily logs to complete.) Next, the
dose was ramped up to 2 capsules a day, and they worked quite well, but I
still had a few bad nights every week. This went on for the 5 months, when
I was cut off from SUMANIROLE, and the symptoms returned.
My legs twitched so badly, that it actually lifted me out of the bed on a
few occasions. No fun.
I was then offered a new program which I entered, where I was infused for 4
hours with an Iron Solution called VENOFER.

Bad stuff. I became ill almost immediately, and was barely able to drive the
60 miles home. Nausea and diarrhea followed for the next 3 days. It did
NOTHING to relieve the RLS symptoms.
In the meantime, I started doing my own research using GOOGLE. Lot's of info
came up. RLS is incurable, but now the symptoms can be stopped.
The best is called REQUIP, IMO.

It really works. No bad side effects for me, anyway.
Another is Neurontin. http://www.neurontin.com/
This is a cheaper solution, but it really effects me adversely. It makes me
DRUNK! Honest, knee-walking, stupid DRUNK, and the after effects the next
day are dizziness for several hours after rising.
I hope this can be of value to others who suffer from RLS.
