What kind of twisted hell is that? I just saw one and I was not sure what to think. Did someone screw up or is that a real option?

Do we like this? Seems kind of crappy to me but I don't have to bid it. Just wondering.

Makes no sense whatsover. If you are on reserve, you are on reserve for the whole month. That has got to be a mistake. If it were vacation relief and they filled in avbl days for the non-vacation part of the month, I could understand. But vacation relief lines are not built for f/as who are on reserve during their vacation month.

I have seen two separate lines. One was LGA based and the other was MIA based. Quite odd. They both had RSV the first part of the month and AVBL on the last half. I would have thought if it was a mistake that it would be corrected already. The fact that the lines are still on the FA's skd and they had seq plotted on the AVBL days and flew RSV assignments on the RSV dys leads me to believe that this was not a mistake.

This is due to a Letter of Agreement between the company and the union concerning the assignment of bases with the Aug 15 recall of 460 which was split into two groups, one reporting to base 11/13 and the other 12/18. It only affects a handful of people. See the APFA website, or if you twist my arm, I'll post more info here when I get a break from flying.

Is this a permanent thing? From the sounds of it I think not but I this is the first I have heard of it.

My first thought was new test lines with the luxury of availability were pushed for half the month since reserve is so senior. I hadn't heard of these either.

I'm still trying to figure out how these make sense...are they not even active the first half of the month before they're sent to base? I assume since MIA had them, there were recalls sent there then and I didn't even know that base was open.

It's almost 1am. I just returned from my fourth consecutive turn. I'll try to post some details tomorrow, but believe me, it's legit.

Thanks. Not a big deal, but just curious. It would be nice to have a few of those to bid on but can you imagine the mad scramble to plot as many trips in the second half of the month? Eh, I wouldnt beable to hold them any.

I did. Basically what happened is this: On Aug 15 the company sent out 460 recall letters, splitting us into two groups; 260 to report to base on Nov 13 and 200 to report Dec 18. The first group (my group) was assigned bases about Sept 21st and the company let it be known that the second group would be assigned their bases according to what was available at the time a month later.

Some in the first group objected to that, saying bases should be assigned by seniority within both groups. A lot wanted ORD and didn't think it fair that they could miss out and watch a junior person get ORD a month later. The company took the position that it was two separate recalls and the union took the position that it was a single recall since letters went out the same day and the deadline for responding was the same. The company said if they reworked the base assignments it would throw off their manpower planning since they wouldn't have people where they originally wanted them.

The reserve/AVBL thing was a compromise and only affected 20 people, I believe. You can find the LOA on the APFA website. It's a good example of the company and union working together.

Ok cool....now it makes sense (sort of). At the end of new hire training, on the suggestion card, I wrote if it's possible for future classes to do a vote (or just do it) to push the classes that were assigned bases a couple of days before clearing the transfer lists to a week later. We got 3 bases (lga, ord and sfo) while the next class got ALL bases (except dallas I think) because they had just cleared the list. I know many new f/as would have been more than happy to wait a week for the exciting base day if it meant more choices if the expensive 6 months lock in could be worked around. Because we were actively hiring, the lists were cleared every week, so basically the even number classes got screwed. LOL. I would have started a week later and given up seniority if I had known. I'm glad it worked out or you guys since it's very important.
