ALPA Fedex MEC Chairman's Message

Fellow Crew Members:

I am writing today to ask for your help on behalf of a fellow crew
member facing some significant medical battles under rather unique
circumstances.

Second Officer Jon Bewley started at FedEx on January 3 after flying for
the Navy, Precision Airlines, Trump, USAir Shuttle, TWA, US Airways, and
PSA, during which time he experienced three furloughs. Just prior to his
first trip at FedEx, doctors discovered five separate cancerous tumors
on Jon's brain and a mass on his lung. He is currently undergoing
radiation and chemotherapy treatments at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical
Center in New Hampshire. As if the health issues were not enough, with
fewer than six months at FedEx, Jon is not eligible to receive long-term
disability payments under our contract and is currently receiving no
income.

Given the severity of Jon's condition, his wife is trying to take an
unpaid Family Medical Leave from her job as a flight attendant for US
Airways to stay at home to care for Jon and their two children, ages 7
and 12. But the Bewley family cannot survive long without any source of
income. Because Jon's circumstances have left him without the usual
safety net provided by disability coverage, we are taking the unusual
step of asking Jon's fellow crew members to help by making donations to
a fund that has been set up at a local New Hampshire bank in the
family's name.

We are requesting your help for Jon and his family. How much to donate
is dependent on many personal factors, but some have suggested that $25
to $50 from each our pilots would go a long way to help. Obviously, many
of us will be contributing significantly more than this, but whatever
you can do will be very much appreciated. I hope you will join me in
supporting Jon and his family because it is the right thing to do to
help a fellow pilot. Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Captain David Webb, Chairman
FDX Master Executive Council
