Starting May 4th, there's going to be a second daily flight from Philly to FRA, using a Boeing 767, as flight #702 departing, arriving #703. Flight leaves 8:20p.

Is this part of the intl expansion? lol

Yeah, every spring that happens.

NO, I beleive that this is just part of the normal summer build up where PHL has 2 FRA departures ,and CLT has 1.

How late into the fall does the 2nd PHL-FRA run this year?

BTW, didn't there used to be a seasonal second daily PHL-CDG service?

Yes, there were 2 daily flights to FRA, CDG, and LGW out of PHL during summer peak travel....before US expanded to other destinations in Europe and ran out of A/C to keep the additional flying to those markets.

The ETOPS 757's can reach what other European City? CDG, FRA,AMS, BRU, ZRH, BCN. I know they can do the British and Irish Isles.

In the summer the 757's have the range to service most mid europe stations. It's on the return flight that's the problem. Getting back to PHL without a fuel stop in BOS. Jet fuel expands with warm temps. So instead of getting 100,000 pounds of JP4 in the tanks, you might only get 95,000 or so in the tanks because of the volume. And I'm just using round numbers here. BRU - PHL is about the max without a fuel stop. And that's if the winds are not too strong and no holding for PHL. Adv. fuel stop 1 hr. from landing to take off if no adverse weather. A small number of our flights from AMS and BRU had to do this last summer. It's a great airplane, but not ment to be a oceanic aircraft when it was rolled out.

Rest of the startup schedule is as follows:

May 4th
702/703 - FRA
758/759 - ATH
------------------

May 13th
776/776 - SNN
------------------

May 14th
738/739 - LIS
------------------

May 15th
768/769 - GLA
------------------

May 16th
752/753 - ARN

In other related International news I saw them doing some people mover testing on a parked 75 at CA-1 down by deice. I've also found out the whole situation with parking a/c down there and using the people movers will only be for 75s. Thank god... I don't feel like taking a K-Loader all the way down there.

OK, Thanks for the info. I knew it would be tight. 757 is a great plane, its ashamed Boeing stopped making them. The A321 will never ever come close to what a 757 could do.

We will definetly have to use some PTVs(people movers) since the city allowed DL to move into A east terminal. Now we have 3 less gates and 1 extra flight as compared to last summer and we all know what success that operation was last summer.

I thought the whole idea of bringing vice presidents to PHL was to improve the operaton. So far I have not seen any improvement let alone seen the new vp's.

So be prepared for more fun and games this summer with a 14% on for many of our departures.

It's the true sign of insanity to repeat something over and over again and expect a different outcome.

Well CO operates the 752 on:
EWR-AMS 3656 mi
EWR-ARN 3930 mi
EWR-HAM 3824 mi
EWR-BCN 3848 mi
EWR-CDG 3649 mi

PHL-BRU 3760 mi

So its not necessarily the aircraft but rather that US' 757's are not as powerful and were not built to travel such long distances

I can't WAIT to see how the seasonal ramp-up of service in PHL will play out in 2009. If we are short 3 gates and already are +1 flight for 2008 how will we be able to fly another three routes to Europe? Time for US to get creative.

and 1 extra flight as compared to last summer

Just a minor clarification, there will be the same number of daily TATL departures this summer as there was last summer. Yes, LHR is up and running, but LIS, SNN, GLA will all only operate 5/wkly and ARN will be 6/wkly. All of the aforementioned cities were flown daily last summer.

Also, US has retimed the arrival of 3 of its westbound arrivals in PHL to arrive after 5pm. By that time FRA, MXP, and ATH (~4pm) will have already left the gate so that should be able to help the situation somewhat. I guess we'll find out soon enough though.

For anyone who cares, here the frequencies for the less-than-daily ops listed below:

GLA - X36
LIS - X27
SNN - X14
ARN - X5

Yes if the sun the moon and the planets all line up we might be able to make it work. but throw a mechanical in the mix and the whole operation is down the tubes.....I know because I lived it last year and it aint pretty!!!!!!

If last year was the worse that we've ever seen at INTL then this year shouldn't really be to bad. Time will tell...

Hell, to be honest. I had a blast last summer! All those 75s swapping several times a night or when we loaded/unloaded BRU 3 times on 2 different a/c before it finally went out at 5am. Ahhh good times
