Harry:
The policy has a purpose, and it is designed to prevent fraud and excessive abuse of sick time. If employees are legitimately sick, then they should be able to provide documentation from their physician to substantiate their time away from work. The US Airways Fleet Services sick policy doesn't penalize for documented, excused absences. On the other hand, it allows for 7 undocumented, unexcused absences in a rolling 12 month period, which is very generous. Following the internal company disciplinary process, it would take 8 unexcused absences in a rolling 12 month period before someone is terminated. If you asked me, 7 free days per year of playing hookey is too many. It hurts morale and productivity. Why can't people just be responsible and show up for work when they are scheduled to?
