Target and Wal-Mart employee job action Black Friday

There's nothing delusional about what I wrote. 22k isn't that much anywhere in this country... you might make "only 28k," but that's still a full 6k more than the example being discussed here. Your current lifestyle wouldn't be impacted if your income suddenly dropped $500/mo.?

On top of that you note that it's your base pay. Is there OT factored in to your income? Profit sharing? Performance bonuses?

My guess is that the 28k is base pay...with commissions.  Not sure if it's a draw or not. Care to respond signals?  Because it's rather disingenuous to claim a base salary of $28k when your actual income is closer to $75k or $100k.

My insurance has been $200 a month for the past 5 years.  And I don't live in NYC either.

You might not have noticed, but for years the average Joe has been paying relatively high premiums for health care.  It might not have dawned on you until later, seeing how you worked for an airline that was providing the bulk (if not all) of your healthcare under your union contract.   No....Walmart shouldn't be obligated to provide healthcare...neither should any other employer.  That's why we should have gone single payor.

But I have to ask....are you cool with Walmart - even BEFORE Obamacare - dumping their health care costs on the taxpayer?  Here is an excerpt from their 2012 benefits package

Is this any worse than your major airlines dumping pensions on the taxpayer?

Or us bailing out the UAW?

You look the other way with paying for phonies on SSID which some 10.9 million draw. Wanna bet there isn't 20-25% fraud there?

Wal Mart has around 1.4 million US employees and you're shocked at them 'dumping' on the US taxpayer. Tell you what, I bet most don't qualify for medicaid either....

I can tell you - yes....they do qualify.  And no, didn't like the airlines or steel companies dumping their pensions - that is, unless they were willing to dump the executives pensions (which they didn't).   But I'll take your response to mean that you are all for companies cutting pay to Walmart levels and pointing them to their local Medicaid offices.  The conservative dream...Indentured servitude.

Reminds me of those doing time on the democrat plantation....
I wouldn't say I support what you despise.....Like I said, those people chose to work there, chose to accept that wage.

Why is it WM is the progressive liberal cause celebre?

Besides, now  you're replete with joy for Obama stuck it up Sam's butt unless WM goes fully PT.

And where's the empathy for those who have had their full time turned to PT all over America?

Now you kiss Wal Marts boots?

LOL

All that is happening is Wal Mart just lost a competitive edge.

So now you can shop at WM and have a conscience too.

PS- That is the same lame article that has been around now for a year or two.

And you are cool with the fact that Walmart pays their "associates" so little that they refer them to GOVERNMENT health care (Medicaid) in their benefits brochure?  You hate Obamacare, but apparently are cool with picking up the health care costs of employees of one of the biggest companies in America.  I guess that IS one way to keep costs down.
And you don't think 99% of Walmart employees voted for BaRack, do you? Single Payer System..........isn't that what you and BaRack wants, to begin with? Just look at Walmart as assisting you two in accomplishing that goal !

So with that said, you are totally aware of state by state medicaid eligibility requirements?

I live in a state that is one of the toughest in the nation to qualify for Medicaid.  They qualify here.

The poor all vote democrat? TX has the highest uninsured rate in the country as I recall and it votes republican. Look at how some of the poorest states voted in the elections.

I'd like to see some proof.
Google "how does Walmart affect communities." Some of you posters on here seem to be intelligent but somehow over the years you have missed how Walmart has moved to communities and wiped out small mom and pop stores. Educate yourselves on what Walmart really is about.

You don't get it. They are running businesses, day after Thanksgiving is the biggest revenue day of the year they can't have disruptions to the operation. Target, Wal-Mart or any employer can unilaterally impose whatever terms of employment they would like subject to DOL guidelines, labor law, etc. If the employees don't like what they are being offered, time to find a new job. How effective have these stupid fast food strikes been? Again, I know you applaud and condone this type of action but this is outrageous. As for me, I won't be setting foot in any shopping malls that day but will be interested to watch this closely. Btw I don't support stores commercializing the Thanksgiving holiday.

Josh
Indeed, they can impose any terms of employment they so chose. Even ones that violate the law. Wal-Mart had at one time 44 suits pending for managers forcing employees to punch out and continue to work under threat of dismissal. The suits to my knowledge were all settled to the tune of around a half billion dollars.

Target is no boy scout either. Despite being very Liberal and denying the Salvation Army to fundraise in front of their stores, they are not immune from the shenanigans caused by Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart my liberalize it's attitude towards employees due to public pressure somewhat. However, you will NEVER see the wholesale changes required to prevent Wal-Mart from being the "Welfare Queen" it is until each of us REFUSES to buy from them.

The one near me has pristine rest rooms and that's the only time I go into Wal-Mart is to take a dump. It's symbolic and saves me on toilet paper.

Companies that operate in the manner that Wal-Mart does are the reason we have socialists. They fail as a corporate citizen to fulfill their end of the social contract. We are in the end our brothers keeper,
