Terminal 1 LAX

USAir passangers get their fair share, they just need to be a bit more physical. When is the last time you have seen the police crowd control unit called? One just can't lay back and expect everything to be given to you on a silver platter. Exert yourself !

Cripe! I don't want to engage in WWF tactics to get to the damn gate man! There has to be a better way. US needs to be in Terminal 1 because it's a strategic concourse. BUT, something has to be done to separate the airlines and their passengers. If Southwest did seat assignments I think this would solve a lot of the problem. Still, I think US should have the gates at the end of the concourse and Southwest the rest. Seems simple to me, but we all know that's never the case. And, lastly, as someone that was "thinking" of joining the US Airways Club because I am traveling more long haul for the new job - what is with no free WiFi in the club? Talking with the gals in the club it seems it is an LAX thing T-Mobile crap. I get free access in the Continental lounge at LAX?? Tell me why I should pay $300 a year and not get this most basic of services that I require? Okay, enough of my rant.

If small airports in this country like Roanoke (VA) Regional can offer free Wi-Fi, Los Angeles should be able to do the same.

And not to knock Boston Logan, but you have to pay for Wi-Fi there as well. You don't at PIT, which is very cool for business travelers (and employees as well!)

Please tell me its not as bad as you say it is.........
Sorry, it is pretty bad. And its because of Southwest.
They have so many flights, and their pax are just EVERYWHERE.
The curbside is a zoo, security is a zoo, they line-up across the concourse for boarding, on inbound flights, there's sometimes a HUGE cluster just to get on the ONE escalator down, but if you choose the elevator instead, you may have to wait two or more cycles for that, too.
I avoid LAX flights specifically because of the situation at the terminal.

I wonder if Chicago/Midway is like that, too. Having watched episodes of "Airline" on A&E, I can comprehend the sea of people at LAX. Several scenes in that show are filmed outside while passengers wait to get into the terminal.

Yes, a year ago this friday, one of the kindest US East ticketing agents helped me out on my way back to PHL from LAX after my connecting UA flight was delayed. Security was out the door and down the street and he helped me get through security when I had just 5 minutes to get to the plane. I still remember how kind he was to me that day. (the ticketing agent before him refused to help me in any way--just pointed to the line and walked away and I still remember what a jerk he was)

sky high states: It's AWFUL. People lying on the floor everywhere! I watched a passenger try to sit behind the podium, where they have a roped off section with a few seats and wheelchairs. The Agent said, "You're not allowed back there." So, he ate his lunch RIGHT ON THE GATE PODIUM while she was checking in people. Tacky!

T1 is out of control! PLEASE, someone from Tempe, this place is an accident and terrorist attack waiting to happen. If one security person turns their back for a nano second, a major collision will happen on those cramped esculators. It has almost happened MANY times.

If I were a terrorist and wanted to car bomb, T1 would be the place. I hate to give anyone the knowledge, but guys there are anywhere between 200-500 customers waiting outside and at the ground level just to go up the stairs. THIS IS SERIOUS!! It appears SW is only interested in bodies and not safety. It's time to find a new place...yesterday!

N311AW and mga707,

That's the kind of problem solving skill that US needs more of right now. Tempe should be reading this thread and contemplating your suggestions instead of sitting on their hands and waiting for a sign from the heavens for an answer.

Kudos to both of you!

What ever. Is there a problem? Sounds like it, are there worse problems? Yep and its PHL and they are working on that and many other areas.

Just because things aren't happening today does not mean that it has not been noticed or that something will be done about it.

Do you have any idea of what is going on there? No and neither do I, but to say that people are just sitting around doing nothing is just wrong.

So, to be sure from reading this thread so far, LAX sux. Got it. It's funny - last year I had to go PHL-LAX and chose to fly UA because of US' pathetic First Class service(it's slightly improved now with at least hot meals). I remember thinking how nice and spacious the UA terminal(s) were. Hadn't been to T1 in several years and even then it was a zoo. It would make the most sense to get US and UA together for *A connections. That was the plan before the merger. Maybe it will resurface.

PHL, I flew UA to LAX this trip. I have to say they have absolutely no leg room in their planes. Told the boss no more UA for me, ever! Plus, their LAX 6 terminal was hot, hot, hot last week no a/c running. It's AA, CO, or US/AWA.

UA A320(usually what flies PHL-LAX has the same pitch in F as A320/321s. And UA E+ is still a world better than US Y. It's just UA coach that's 1" less than US coach (31" vs 32").

I found their F seats to be more comfortable and the hot meal service reminicent of the early days of US.

On a side note, I see CO is putting ice cream sundaes back on their BizFirst service. I LOVED the US sundaes on the transcons. An F/A told me they all hated serving them because they were so messy.

What happen to all the real estate USAir had that got from PSA

T-1 IS the "real estate USAir had that got (sic) from PSA"! Pre-PSA merger (1988), US was over on the other side of the field, at T-6 IIRC.
PSA had moved over to Terminal One when it opened in 1984, along with AirCal, and two airlines that then had MUCH smaller LAX operations: America West and Southwest.

T-1 got some 'breathing room' when AA swallowed up AirCal in '87, vacating their space, and then again a few years later after US had dismantled practically all of the former PSA route system.
Counterbalancing this was HP's slow growth, and, of course, WN's massive growth at LAX.
Result: One overcrowded terminal!

on the HP side of the house does anyone know for sure if HP has 2 gates or is it 3? I seen in the US Airways magazine it says 2 but I have heard 3. Does anyone know for sure?

I know US has 4, 10 and 12 (sometimes 8 as well).

Maybe someone should call the fire marshall's office. It sounds like a serious fire hazard!
