Terminal 1 LAX

T1 is out of control! If one security person turns their back for a nano second, a major collision will happen on those cramped esculators.

Have I missed the Southwest passager complaints or are there none? US Airways is a low cost carrier, and advertises itself as such. If Premium Terminal seeting is desired, there should be an additional charge.

As for the esculators, would it be US Airways or the airport's insurance that would pay is some shoving accelerated people downward?

I know we want more for less, but it is business!

Absolute mess of a terminal. I was out there earlier this month. The US Club is hard to find and out of the way... at least it is relatively roomy.

The gates have zero seating. When my America West flight to PHX was called for boarding, we had to push our way through two Southwest lines to get to the jetway door back in the corner of the terminal's end. What a mess.

Anybody in Tempe working on this?

I think they need to work on the website first. 🙄

If small airports in this country like Roanoke (VA) Regional can offer free Wi-Fi, Los Angeles should be able to do the same.

Alas...everything in Los Angeles is a la carte! No freebies in this city! Hey...at least they got with the program and at least finally installed T-Mobile.

LA just sinks in all forms.

It is my understanding that the Facilities Department is working with LAX and WN officials for the new US Airways to take custody of gates 4A, 4B, 6, 8, & 10 (west side of terminal). Southwest would then use gates 1, 3A, 3B, 5, 7, 9, 11,12B, & 13 (east side of terminal). In addition, the Facilities Department is working on consolidating/improving current concourse and below concourse work stations and upgrading IT equipment.

T-1 IS the "real estate USAir had that got (sic) from PSA"! Pre-PSA merger (1988), US was over on the other side of the field, at T-6 IIRC.
PSA had moved over to Terminal One when it opened in 1984, along with AirCal, and two airlines that then had MUCH smaller LAX operations: America West and Southwest.
Are you POSITIVE of this? I am quite sure US was one of the original tennants in T 1 with Southwest and HP. I flew to LAX years before the merger and we were in T1. I worked LAX as a merger coach after the merger and it was a mess then. No PA's at the door for boarding, a phone system that couldn't call to other of our new gates. I know that was all worked out though in time. Hopefully something can be worked out there.

Wouldn't it make sense for the new US to take custody of Gates 2, 4A, 4B, 6 and 8? After all, Gate 2 is right next to the club...not sure if the Airbus could fit in that small space though.

LAX has actually re-designed the T-1 security screening area upstairs. They have added a few additional security screeners, as well as a lovely Disneyland-type queue as you step off the escalators. The line does move a bit faster now, but it still extends to T-2! The downside for those of us who are US Club members is that we now get to take our places at the back of the "upstairs queue," whereas under the old layout we could step off the elevator and cut the line entirely.

Check out the below link regarding security screening at LAX. Not too encouraging.

USA320Pilot, hope you're right - that might be a good solution. Now, if they could only build a wall between the two airlines...

Not too encouraging.

If it is really as bad as people say, we should be seeing some blood. Since it is being accepted, there is absolutely no reason to change. Yes I know the Airport/USAir/Southease/TSA managers are required to say politically correct things, but there is NO reason for them to actually improve.

That's great...wait until something happens. Sounds alot like the same ignorance that contributed to 9/11. Again, an accident/terrorist attack waiting to happen.

I fly out of the Los Angeles area, and would love to take the 9:45pm flight from LAX-PHX, but I DESPISE T-1. So I fly out of ONT or SNA. If you look at the loads out of these two airports, it would seem that people prefer ONT,SNA, and Long Beach to LAX. I can not see the negative attitude and the long wait.. not worth it!!

I hear that. The only compelling reason to use LAX now is if you just have to be non-stop to PHL or you like the great ladies at the Club. Otherwise it's SNA for me.

Amen to that! I switched my flying almost exclusively to UA during the dark period of the LAX club closure. T-1 is just insufferable without the oasis of the club and it's awesome employees. (Yes, Berna...this means you.)
