The Changes to Come

What? Have you been to the gas station lately? You have got to be kiddin'.....

Fuel cost alone for US up 1.9 billion, that's a fact. Why are people not able to wrap their heads around that?

And people are hoping that other airlines don't follow.... Wait, we are following other airlines: AA, Spirit, etc....

They will all be following within the week....

What they should have done is RAISE fares, not fees. And taking away bonus miles is a slap in the face to all frequent travelers.

You know I have to wonder what it is they don’t understand as well ?

Listening to all of this crying is just pathetic/sad … these are GROWN adults … and they seem either unable or unwilling to comprehend the situation our business is now in ….

Folks if GAS for your cars shot up to 15 dollars a gallon you’d start making some pretty big changes in your life , same situation , only it’s our company and not our car .

While I reserve the right to be critical of Tempe, I absolutely am in agreement with the new fees, and any new fees to come. It is human nature to "vent", and I think that is what is happening here. It is entertaining tho, some people should really consider the theatre....

Please do enlighten us oh brilliant one - we are but simple fools who lust after your wise and all knowing knowledge.
During Bob Crandall’s long tenure as CEO of American Airlines, the airline was truly an innovator—so much so that employees at AA had a certain swagger about them. They knew they were the best and brightest of the industry. It was on Crandall’s watch that American created one of the first frequent flyer programs in the industry, developed the most sophisticated reservation system of its time, and pioneered the concept of “yield managementâ€â€”using sophisticated algorithms to constantly reprice fares to maximize the revenue for each flight. Labor relations was another matter, but Crandall knew—and knows—his business.

Not like the wailing we'll hear coming from PHX when the layoffs come. You'll be burning those pom poms pretty quick.

It seems like all of the majors have hidden fees.

Last November we flew United and due to a late flight from ABE to IAD we wound up spending about 6 hours at IAD waiting for the next flight. UA customer service wouldn't give us food vouchers but did give us $50 certificates for a future flight. I redeemed mine a few months ago, but I had to pay $15 to talk with an agent because their online system wouldn't take the voucher. In other words, a $50 certificate was actually only worth $35.

I hope the latest fees help. We fly US more than any of the others and overall we've been treated well. Other than the fact that a flight to Hawaii on a United 777 beats a US 757 any day of the week, most other experiences on other carriers have been on a par with our US flights.

I want to see US stay a viable carrier.

POM POM’s ???

No my friend , I’m taking a hit off of the REALITY bong ….

Uh it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see what’s driving the market ….

Why don’t you try taking a hit from the reality bong , man that’s an eye opener …

Don't mistake me for being HAPPY that we're having layoffs and increasing our fares .. i'm NOT happy about any of it , and i feel really bad for those who will lose their jobs ... but what must happen must happen .

Thank you. I will wager that you will still see the same kind of excellent service from the majority of our inflight crews. I guess I am the only one, but I applaud Tempe for taking the necessary steps to at least attempt to cover fuel costs. Many people depend on this job, especially for the health insurance, which is not exactly easy to come by for many these days, and the employees at US have arguably been thru more than employees of any other airline since 9/11, and still continue to fly with their "heads up". Sorry I no longer to have anything complimentary to offer you in Y, but that does not mean that the human aspect of the service will decline.

Well let's see here - just priced Phila - Providence round trip departing July 7th, returning July 10th. Total fare on SouthWest was $177 - US lowest fare was $435.

So - why in the world would I fly on US?

Somehow - charging more than twice as much as the competition - and then charging me $2 for a bad cup of coffee on a 6:30AM flight doesn't seem like a smart way to "Change the way we do business" now does it?

If you are going to charge me a premium price - then give me a premium product. Certainly people don't expect to buy a Range Rover for a Smart Car price - so why do airlines think that people should be willing to pay higher prices for less services?

Selling all the cans of soda in the world isn't going to fix this situation for US, or any other airline for that matter.

I'm a bit torn. I AGREE with the fees but NOT toward our FF's or high fare passengers. If these folks could have printed coupons to use for a beverage then so be it. Now with that said I'm NOT a sales person but a flight attendant. Because YOU (management) have NO OTHER TALENT to speak of besides forcing sales of soda WE the flight attendants have to suffer. I personally don't give a crap about selling soda as I think FEW will buy it relative to how many passengers are on a full flight. What I DO have a problem with is the feeling that we'll be selling a whole lot more. I'm not working G'damn boutique flights EVERY leg. NO! ! ! ! And I don't care HOW high oil goes. We have people employed at US who we spend MILLIONS and MILLIONS to retain right? Well come up with PROPER ways to cover the costs besides making flight attendants peddlers. Your fuel is up over a billion dollars and you plan to generate HOW much from selling nonalcoholic beverages? While it may come across as ridiculous that we complain about it the thought of doing it is MUCH more ridiculous. 🙄

Maybe the next US commercial will be the employees holding hands in a big circle singing "I'd like to teach the world to sing, In perfect harmony, I'd like to buy the world a Coke..."

Or maybe a passenger will give a flight attendant a Coke and she will gulp it down and throw her apron to the kid.

Trav,

You speak to management's talent. This thread is about the incredible obscene cost of jet fuel and the impending fees to offset that cost. While I agree with you whole heartedly that mgmt has made many bad decisions, I think this falls into a totally different category. Fuel cost has nothing to do with Tempe or the way they choose to run the airline, and, in fact, every airline (save WN) is suffering tremendously.

Let's be clear here: People are blaming the incompetence of management for this one, and it simply does not relate. As a FA, I am not excited about selling this cr@p, but I understand the severity of the situation. I have a car and I You are I are lucky enough to be in a position where we can take leaves; some people depend on this job for their families (ie insurance). If these fees that are implemented help the bottom line, then so be it. You have often questioned why economy pax onboard an aircraft expect anything for free, and I agree.
