Doesn't look very promising..was there not any oal contract that the stations could have picked up? LHR and LGW are class 2 also, but natural reduction in headcount is not being replaced, add the fact that several new oal contracts have being signed means that the shifts are at or below minimums most of the time. This is generating a lot of sick and overtime which is way more expensive than having to hire people to fix things....Surely there wont be a move to change the sytem to all class 1? who'll end up doing the work at line stations, contractors?
Yes.
Despite the fact the England is about the most anti-worker country in Europe (Constitutional MONARCHY set up by the merchantile class portraying itself as a Democracy)its close proximity to Europe has benifitted its workers in that you guys enjoy a lot of protections that we dont have. Your government provided protections (from the Socialists) protects you guys from layoffs, paycuts and benifit cuts. You guys did not see the reductions we did and you earn the equivelent of about $20K-US more than we do. So you guys should be more than willing to do more, as for me, keep the extra work, I surely and not going to put out more work for less pay.
Sure. On-call maintenance. But during the course of the day as planes arrive and depart, flight crews would be aware there are no AA mechanics there and could wait to write up "non" airworthy items until the planes sees a Class 1 station. Of course, should there be a no-go discrepancy, a contract maintenance firm could be called...
As for overnight aircraft that may have some problems..they could send AA mechanics on a field trip to make repairs.
It is not too costly for AA because they eliminated double time pay last concession package!
Sure they eliminated doubletime but the only way they can get people to go is by promising that they get the legal absence with pay for the next day, to me its still not worth it.
I see Mr Wood is trying to sell the old "performance" lie again. Its amazing how they still use this empty threat.
How many workers out there have seen this lie revealed over and over again though the years? How often have you heard that "You guys delivered the best performing B check in the system" only to be told a week later that "We are losing the B check due to routing"?
I agree with Time's sentiment about the line about what we agreed to do when we signed on, when we got doubletime, holiday pay, shift pay etc.
The way I read Mr Woods letter, after having been exposed to 20 years of similar rhetoric, is this:
"Should this layoff work out, in that all the required work continues to get accomplished, come September expect another round of headcount reductions as we try and see how lean we can run this place, after all, no good deed goes unpunished. So we will threaten you that if you dont work harder you will lose your jobs but in reality if everyone does work harder then they wont need as many mechanics anymore and you will lose your job for sure."
Management must be laughing their asses off at us. They threatened to eliminate thousands of jobs unless they got all the concessions they demanded, well they got the concessions then they eliminated thousands of jobs anyway. They threaten that we will see more layoffs unless we work harder and increase our productivity, then when that happens they use the increased productivity as a means to eliminate even more jobs and our so called "Union" is right there in bed with them!!!!!
