The New Buddypass System Sucks!

airlinedivalish,
First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy!
I cannot imagine being pregnant, and going through a merger.
From what people have been saying on this forum, your fears should have been calmed. There is nothing to worry about, but most importantly, ALL of it is beyond your control.
Try to sit back, think positive, and choose to make this a good thing for you and your family. You will be amazed at how a positive approach will affect your outlook.
Good luck!

I guess I overreacted and I owe everyone an apology, but this merger is indeed a stressful time. It's just that after reading the S.O.S. letter that a US F/A wrote that we saw in Las Vegas and the letter by their LEC Officer Laura. It sounded very vicious and made all of us concerned. I'm pregnant right now and I don't need this, so it is pretty emotional time. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens.

<<<Knock, Knock.....Who's there? 2.5 billion dollars to help save your airline! Now stop whining! My goodness....how people just look for things to complain about. Complaining about people losing jobs is understandable but buddy passes....please! If your criteria for judging the new pass system strickly is based on going from 40 to 8 passes, then it shows how near sighted you are. I hate to be so critical, but we really don't need someone stirring discontent in what will be some very trying times ahead. If folks aren't ready to get on board, then get out so the rest of us can work on keeping our new airline viable. Don't be an anchor be an oar. 😉

DIVA, buddypasses are of load of crap anyway. You can often book a positive space fare on line for just slightly more and get mileage for it too!

Wait until one of those buddy passes falls into the hands of a "friend" or relative who doesn't mind their p's and q's at the ticket counter or gate. Not good. Been there done that. You can end up without flight benefits. Not you, not anybody. I never give them out, anymore.

At US, parents have always flown free. Why should they have to pay now. Is it because they have to pay at HP? Why not let parents continue to fly free, as US does now? I don't think that any former HP employee would have any complaints about that.

As far as the argument goes for DOH or Check-in time, each and every employee has earned their time with the company. It should be worth something. DOH boarding is a reward that you begin earning the day you start with the company, which is fair.

Check-in time boarding is not fair because an 18 year old new hire with no kids, lives with mom, and has no responsibilities has all the time in the world to get to the airport four hours early. An established employee, with a spouse, kids, and home, depend on there seniority to get them to their destination and back. When family are involved, it's not always possible to be somewhere 4 hours early. Also everyone doesn't have a computer to check-in from home.

Management please give our parents free travel benefits once again, and stick with DOH for all purposes.

Parents end up paying about 20 bucks roundtrip.

Parents on HP fly free with Flexi's....anyone find out what can be done with these flexis some of us have? Can we use them til we use em all???

I just don't understand why HP employees keep saying that parents get to fly free, they just have to use flexi's. If they have to use flexi's, they are paying for it with a flexi. It is not free. FREE is FREE! At US parents just get on the plane and go where they want to go, if there is an available seat. Do you now understand what FREE means?

Non Reving benefits are exactly that, a benefit not a God given right. Those can be revoked at any time. Yes my parents used to be able to travel for free at my seniority, now they have to pay $15 and try to beat everyone to the airport 4 hrs prior to their flt. They are in their 70's and do not have any clue how to use a computer. As far as the $15. Its 15 bucks, alot cheaper then paying full fare. I cannot believe that ppl are still upset over this issue. The airline doesnt have to offer travel benefits at all.

.. and as i stated before...

It sounds like our benefits are pretty much industry-standard in terms of buddy passes & boarding priorities.

Only thing that caught me off guard: new hires must wait 30 days to travel!

They simply mean they don't have to pay any money. Yes, they have to give up Flexis, but the costs of using Flexis as a guest pass is very expensive (really only worthwhile for last minute travel). For that reason, most HP employees have more Flexis than they can use.

Time with the company has earned them something--higher pay, more vacation, better schedules. Non-rev travel is a benefit, it should be available equally to all employees. A more senior employee doesn't get better health beneifts than a junior employee.

IN addition, just because someone is a new hire, that doesn't mean they have no kids and all the 'time in the world" to be at the airport. Maybe an 18-year old new hire also has college classes to work around? THat 18 year old may also hav ea spouse, or other family commitments. Maybe a 53-year old employee with 30+ years at the company is the one that has plenty of time to show up at the airport 4 hours early.

The big problem I have with using DOH is when an employee show up at the airport 3 hours before their flight, but gets bumpee to the next one--which leaves 3 hours later. So, that employee has been patiently waiting at the airport for a total of 6 hours. They get cleared, and settled into their seat. Then, out of no where, an employee who has been with the company for just 1 more month wanders up to the gate 20 minutes before departure and tkes their seat. One could argue that the extra seniority, no matter the length, earned the employee that right. But I say that taking the inititiave to show up well in advance of a flight also earns the junior employee the right to that seat. We tell our passengers to show up at least 1-2 hours before the flight--we should expect the same of employees who know the business very well. Check-in time gives every employee an equal starting point for each & every flight. The new employees work JUST AS HARD as the older employees and deserve ALL of their beneifts equally.

I'm not thrilled that parents will have to start paying (a VERY SMALL fee) to travel, but it makes sense. We are a company, in the business to make money. Alhtough the additional costs to carry 1 person are small (for short flights, well below $15)--but those extra costs DO exist. First and foremost, benefits are meant for employees--feel grateful that WE get to travle for free--not to mention we can extend VERY CHEAP flights to family& friends.

My parents fly quite often...on my pass....on my seniority. I don't think it would break me, or them to spring for 15 bucks when they travel. More of a concern is sending your teens off on a trip with NO seniority, and a different boarding priority. It sux that family memebers not with the employee are now classified differently.

But....I guess its something that we'll have to deal with. Nobody likes change, as is quite evident with all the crying and whinning on this board. Its funny how employees blame employers for the division in work groups, when in reality it is the emplyees who create the division....atleast on this board they do.

But...everybody is entitledd to their own opinion....no matter how f*$#@d up and jaded it may be.
