The Real Reason Dems Backed Burris for the Senate

Your link is 1st vote on the 10th...mine was the final on the 13th link

Still doesn't negate the fact that the Dems needed all the votes necessary. So much so they overlook yet another democratic corruption scandal.

Still waiting for you to show that the reason Burris was seated was for what you say. Don't you think if they only had 59 votes they would have flown in Teddy boy? Assuming of course the republicans had truly intended to fillibuster.

What's funny about this stimulus bill is how the GOP is trying to portray themselves as dficit hawks. The problem they have there of course is they have very little credibility when it comes to that. They controlled the White House for the past eight years. They had control of the Senate 2003-2007 and control of the House for six of those eight years. Did they contol government spending? Obviously not, the budget deficit balloned under their watch. If the opposite were true I would be more inclined to listen to what they have to say. Instead I think to myslef what a bunch of hypocrites they are.

I do not feel like looking it up but I thought when the Buriss thing first came up the Sen leadership said they wanted nothing to do with him. My understanding was that as long as he got the OK from the person in IL (not the gov but the other guy who needed to sign off on it) that the Sen leadership did not have an option.

I think the Dems (if they have any integrity) should kick the SOB out and let IL have a special election.

As for the Dems wanting Buriss for a 60 person majority .......DUH! That's a bit of a no brainier. If you can get a majority, you go for it. Republicans would o the same. I hope the dems loose it and the republicans never get it. The mere idea defeats the purpose of a 'two party' system IMO.

The Illinois Sec of State technically had to sign off on the Burris appoitment. He never did and in reality that the Secretary of State did not have veto power over appoitments over the governor.

Yes Roland Burris should step down. This whole mess could ahve been avoided if a special election had been approved in the first place. Unfortanetly the democrats who control Springfield decided against it and now they have this huge mess on their hands. Guess they thought the people of Illinois could not be trusted to vote the right way.

As far as the conspiracy theory that Burris got his seat so the democrats would have the neccesary votes its just that, a theory. It ignores the fact that no one knew back then how all the republicans would vote on it. Or the possibility that some bluedog democrat might vote against it. It also ignores that if they truly needed that 60th vote they could fly in Teddy boy. And of course we are all assuming the republicans would have done a fillibuster in the first place. IMO pressure from the Congressional Black Caucus probably had more to do with it.

Its blatantly obvious for those that haven't bought into the Hope-n-Change-Subject-to-Change environment in Washington. Keep on sippin it!!!

You all sound remarkably like the sheep in Animal Farm. God forbid anyone would take a moment and read an alternative point of view like this,

"Why are taxpayers being used to reward this mismanagement?"

This is why Daniel J. Mitchell, a senior fellow at The Cato Institute, said the bailouts were like "giving an alcoholic the key to a liquor cabinet." Mitchell went on to list three important reasons why bailouts are bad news"

Bailouts are a perverse transfer from poor taxpayers to rich taxpayers

Hey Bob,

I don't think you will find me in disagreement with your conclusion.

You accuse me of drinking the Kool Aid? If anything you have drunk more Kool Aid than anyone on this board. The volume and nature of your posts prove this. Have I started any threads in the Water Cooler about how great Obama is? No I have not. All I have done is point out the deceptive nature of your posts.

The Kool Aid you have drunk is the Obama is out to get us and ruin the country Kool Aid. The man has not been in office a month yet you seem to have maid up your mind. Myself, I'm going to wiat a bit linger before I pass final judgement.

By the way you seem to have assumed that I'm some sort of hardcore Obama supporter. The truth is there are decisions he has made that I'm not so crazy about. Like appointing Hilliary as Secretary of State. Or Leon Panetta as head of the CIA. And his choice as Secretary of the Treasury leaves a bit to be desired. Like I said before I'll just wait a bit longer before making up my mind. And unless he screws up really bad he's still an improvement over Bush 43.

APNewsBreak: Black pastors to ask Burris to resign

AP

A Chicago minister tells The Associated Press he and other black pastors who previously supported U.S. Sen. Roland Burris now plan to ask him to resign.

The minister spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because a meeting with Burris hadn't yet been scheduled.

Many of the city's black pastors supported seating Burris because of his scandal-free reputation -- even though he was appointed by then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich after the governor was arrested.

But revelations that Burris attempted to raise money for Blagojevich while seeking the Senate job have eroded some of his support. Blagojevich is accused of trying to sell the

With those pastors being his core supporters without them I think his days are numbered. His biggest problem in all this is that he was thinking like an attorney, and talking like one. While he might be able to say he did not lie per se he lied by ommision.

If 4000+ guys don't come home from Iraq in body bags then I would say he's an improvement over Bush.

If he can keep another 9/11 off our shores then I will say thats an achievement. But with Obama now being an apologist to Iran and Clinton endorsing Shariah law in Pakistan, its only a matter of time.

Look back at when Bill Clinton was elected. The world was coming to an end. We would all be socialists...

Same stuff different year.

Maybe we should invade/occupy Pakistan and enforce the American way of democracy...
