Flt 1883 aborted it's takeoff roll at 80k, after a "loud bang," then promptly went to the hangar for an engine change.....

Hooray for everything. 🙄

Did someone get frustrated and threw a wrench in it- hence a loud bang?

Perhaps a chock?...

Mechanic Throws Wheel Chock Into Engine.

A Frontier Airlines mechanic threw a wheel chock into an engine of a jet carrying 130 passengers on New Year's Day, forcing the pilot to return the plane to its gate at DIA, federal authorities said Thursday. The mechanic, Corydon Van Dyke Cochran, 44, allegedly told an FBI agent that he threw the chock into the No. 1 engine of the Boeing 737 aircraft because he believed Flight 136 to Dallas was unsafe to fly, according to a federal affidavit. Cochran agreed to answer questions without an attorney and told the FBI that the jet needed a lightning strike inspection before its departure from Denver International Airport, the agent wrote in court documents. Federal prosecutors charged Cochran on Thursday with one count of destruction of an aircraft.

I remember this being quite a hot topic on the-mechanic.com. I still say if he was that concerned, he should have blocked 'em with a pushback tractor or truck, or anything....

Whatever happened to this guy?

Pto, You were saying about US maintenance? You know what they say about those who live in glass houses!

At AA we test our engines without any passengers on board and before flight. We don't pencil whip engines at AA like they do at NWA.

Here's another "classic" NW episode....

Flight 1190 (LAS-DTW) had a fire bottle discharge light issue. After roughly 75 minutes on the ramp in the midday heat-with the passengers "cooking" (an actual quote from WorldFlight)- MC and dispatch couldn't figure out a fix.

Their solution? Why jsut run remove all of the cargo, and fly the plane full upstairs, but empty down below!

One flight. 148 misconnected bags. Infinite amounts of ill will.

Lovely.

P.S. This was A/C 5501

sounds like another fine "flawless" job well done by the good ol scabs--I mean maintaince personell! But doesnt a plane with no bags make the weighter quite different for both take off and landing?

didn't some of those "flawless mechanics" now at NW used to sport the AMFA patch on their shirt?

Nope. 95% of the former NWA union scabs that crossed were ex-IAM officers and brainwashed IAM cultists.

The IAM loves scabs, are you one of them Danny?

There is no such thing as a SCAB being flawless with the intent you imply. That being knowledgeable, skilled and possessing integrity.

The only flawless characteristics SCABS have are hiding behind an alias and being flawlessly devoid of knowledge, skill & integrity.

Im sure the IAM loves scabs, just like everyone else at NWA. What about the other 5% that crossed the picket line. What union did they come from? Could it of started with an A? How many AMFA members went on strike last August? How many have crossed to get their job back. I wonder why they crossed in the first place? I even wonder why they went on strike and didnt take a paycut, but thats not my fight nor my concern. But my biggest question is why put cleaners and lav personel in a mechanics union. Would you see flight attendants in a krogers union? Or a truck driver in a pilots union? Im sure life is good when your making $35 an hour, and then they ask you to take a $5 paycut because the industry is dying down. I guess in some cases the answer is to wildcat and hold up your picket signs and shout scabs. To some that might be the answer and to others grabbing a wrench and crossing the picket line is their answer. To each is own, but you also have to know when to hold them and know when to fold them. And why assume im a scab just because i know whats going around? Oh look we got a newbie posting here under a false name and a secret identity, he must be a scab.

Well, obviously you don't know what's going around.

How many times does it have to be repeated: THE STRIKE WASN'T ABOUT THE PAYCUTS! The Mechs, Cleaners and Custodians were willing to make concessions. They weren't, however, willing to chop 53% of their own members.

And crossing the picket line isn't an answer. It's a way out for people who have no morals or integrity, and are willing to stab their fellow workers in the back.

"Why put cleaners and custodians in a mechanics union?" Again, how many times does it have to be repeated: BECAUSE THEY WERE FORCED TO!

And you still haven't answered the question: are you a scab? On strike at NWA? Another employee at NWA? Employed at another airline? Just an observer? C'mon, inquiring minds want to know! 😀
