I watched tonight as one flatbed truck after another left the PIT ramp with loads of Cargo/Freight carts.
The last time I saw that much equipment leave was November 2004 when PIT was dehubbed.
Looks like no plans to build PIT back up.
Could all the carts be going to PHL ?

They did this once in PHX several years back. They were short equipment in LAS so they shipped equipment there from PHX leaving PHX severely short. That was using the old noggin.

If they're going anywhere I sure hope they're coming to PHL. We need all the equipment we can get. It's nice when you have bags to run and go out and find zero tugs to run them with, even though you're "supposed" to have 21 assigned to your area.

we lost our air stairs a few weeks back because phl needed it.. now if we were to get a diversion, it will have to sit on the pad and no one can get off due to limited gate space and the new service of Allegiant Air. Hopefully Phl will get what it needs and no more repeats of the Disaster of Christmas 2004

On Wed. I saw a flatbet druck with carts heading east on the PA Tpk around johnstown with carts on truck.

FWIW - I was on I-81 last week and noticed a flatbed w/ a US Airways truck on the back, as well. It was headed south. I assumed it was headed for Philly, though there was no way for me to be sure of this. Just a hunch because of the equipment shortage there. Not sure if it also came from PIT as that would not explain why it was on 81.

it could have been from Johnstown though not sure. but it could have come from PIT if there was a backup on I78 or 76 whichever comes across the state in addition to I81

Wouldn't make any sense to build up PIT. O and D just isnt there. Yeah, it was a great connecting point, but also with high landing fees. PIT is gone. It will never be close to what it is, and for that you can blame the county and city governmnet. They drove most of the businesses out of the area with high taxes, high rent, high(er) cost of living, etc.

people,PIT is a GSE station and they routinely overhaul/repair these things and ship out for systemwide use.....

Was it just one flat bed? If so 4 carts only fit on a flat bed ans if its heading towards Philly were gonna need about 50 flat beds just for a chance to get things to run better. Some of the carts we have now in operation I think were used by the Romans!

Were they mainline or express assets? Because PHL Express routinely removes (read: steals) PIT's assets using the excuse that all of the Express assets are now under the control of GSE, and that they can be moved systemwide to accomplish whatever equipment goal is necessary. Of course, I have never heard of any of PIT's equipment going anywhere else but PHL, so one can read into my statement that I think there is regular funny business going on at PIT's expense.
