How does a fleet service guy win president at a maint local this place cracks me up

Well he is a member so he has just as much right to run as anyone else.

When I ran for Treasurer the President on our ticket was an aircraft cleaner. Why? Because I felt he was the most qualified for the job. The people in Tulsa must have felt the same way.

I've only heard good things about the guy.

TWU Informer, I hope this dampens that cynicism, there is hope.

I have to say that I'm very pleased with the Unofficial results. Sam is a good man and will utilize the tools he has to better represent the members of Local 514. I for one am re-energized with prospect of what he and his newly elected officers and board will bring to Local 514.

And as I predicted years ago, Kinnaman would be a one term Chairman of Maintenance.

I'm sure he will have the best interests on the AMTs in mind when he is voting on important issues for the AMTs....

He certainly couldn't do any worse than Luis in looking out for the best interests of the AMT profession.

Well let's see if the membership votes down the TA if this election is any indication of discontent in TULSA

Blah Blah Bkah we all know the real problem is the TWU Constitution allowing International appointments and buying off sellouts that are never subjected to the membership ballot. Yet here we are pretending once again that another Local Election is going to make a difference.

Sam Cirri won the election with 680 or so votes out of 2800 cast and now we have a "new mandate for change"? I don;t think so. barely even half even voted if half at all.

I didnt tally to bad for a guy that didnt buy and single piece of campaign material and never once even ventured outside the building I work in to campaign. I guess you could say my heart wasnt really into getting elected and having to take an oath of allegiance to the TWU. I would find it hard to stand before the membership and take the oath of office in the TWU. So I coasted to defeat, and given my wife is sick and needs me supporting her at this time it was God send to not be elected at this time. The Guardian Angels no best and I'm content, but please don;t think we have solved any of our problems with this Local Election.

Really, what would motivate a baggage handler to to take up our (AMT) interests with any passion? This will be interesting...

Well, apathy on the part of your coworkers apparently if a FSC can run and win in an election held on a maintenance base.

There sure aren't 680 clerks in TUL.

It looks like less than 30% of the base bothered to vote, and only 24% of that group voted him in...

That means just over 7% of TUL thought he was the most qualified guy for the office... and maybe he really is, but this is why some people believe in things like qualified majority voting....

Vortilon, a man is not defined by his job. When you talk about your friends in your life do you say Bob the Welder, Dave the Car Salesman? Lets assume your wife is an RN. You don't refer to her as nurse do you? I don't know about you but my life isn't defined by my job. When I leave work I have a whole other life that has nothing to do with AA. You really need to get rid of your them and us attitude. Fleet Service is them, Management is them, Flight Attendants are them, Pilots are them. Thats the problem with AA today everybody is them. There is no Us and We anymore. I would think Sam would try extra hard to succeed in his job knowing he is in a union of them. Don't you?

I agree with most of your post, except the "Us, We and them" part. At work there is an "Us" and a "them". "Us" includes Fleet, FAs and Pilots, "them" is management. Once "WE all" get a fair deal then we all can be 'We".

Majority Voting in Local Officer Elections would be a violation of the TWU Constitution which mandates plurarity elections. Thus we have weak leaders who can be bought off for the lifetime appointment to a six figure salary to the TWU International.
