What's new

tulsa election result

Only half of the members voting for a local election, the way the informer talks on this board, you would think that TUL is up in arms over the TA. It looks like the TA will pass without much of a problem. Why is it always the AMFA guys saying that the sky is falling?

If we vote down the TA won't the same guys be negotiating, you know the guys that brought us this TA. Not to mention the guy that TUL chose to lead them is a fleet svc clerk who can't vote on our contact.

I do hope that the new local 514 pres will do well for it's membership.

Duke, voting down the TA will only confirm Jack Kane's appointment to the drivers seat and define..... "Who's your daddy now?"....lol

How many voted last time? Historically only half vote, Luis got in with what 800 votes?

Informer says that Tulsa is up in arms? I didnt see that.

The sky is falling? Now that sounds like Videtich and Gilboy.

Some of the same guys will be negotiating, some will be new. Hopefully we will have someone new from the Internmational thats on our side for a change, or nobody at all like many of the other TWU Locals outside the AMR system. I cant imagine that the International would keep Don in there after spending all that money on TA books and shipping etc. Somebody's head would have to roll. Don has steered us to this TA for a long time. Look at what they tried to push through in Aug of 2008, they used $150bbl fuel then as the fear factor, then in June of 09 the crisis was supposedly the White Spaces" inn the dock plan in 2012. "We have to show the 6th floor we are serious about filling those white spaces". Now its "You guys will be out of a job if you dont vote this in", in reality its more like"Lets get these concessions in place before they realize how much cash we are pulling in this year".

Bob, don't get ahead of yourself. The TA would have to be voted down first.

The only reason Don has pushed this is the company has threatened him with the only thing the TWU Intl fears the most. (lost union dues from spinning off)

Having a fleet svc clerk as the president of the TUL local is more of an attack on the AMT profession then the concessionary contract we voted in, in 2003. Not a personal attack on the guy, but it shows that the largest mechanic base can't find one mechanic they think can represent them to the company. Which is a shame, because there are a lot of talented smart mechs in TUL who don't want to put up with the 1 per center's, who complain about everything.

The 2003 contract was voted in with huge pay cuts, what makes you think this TA with a small raise will be voted down by mechanics who won't even fill out a ballot and mail it in to vote on a local president. Spin it anyway you want Mr. Owens the TUL mechanics are being represented by a ramper that they voted in. They must be pretty content up there in TUL.

Sam has been in negotiations with the Fleet group and I hear he has been the biggest voice against all this crap being shoved in our faces. With Fleet, he has a small number and the voice can't be projected loudly. With Mtc. he will have 6000 behind him and now his voice will be heard everywhere. If TUL wanted a fighter, you got one...who cares what the Company says he is, an AMT or a FSC...He is now the President, that's all that matters.

Just vote yes. The company always gets what it wants why prolong the torture at least they offered some scraps i could use the money

I dont know about the rest of the country but us living in oklahoma and texas cant find anything better than what we have so it only makes sense to vote yes. And if you live in oklahoma or Texas and think you can do better somewhere else please offer some sort of proof, talk is cheap prove to me there are better jobs for us down here. yes this agreement is not very good but show me our skills can get me something better. All you haters sound off but I have six kids to feed.

yep kev im serious were we going to find something better answer the whole question

So why don't you vote no and let us poor East and West coasters get a cost of living provision, because the wage that is ok for you is not ok for us in the NY, LA, SFO areas. Or are you a " I got mine and screw the rest" kind of person? Also I don't want to hear move to Texas or Oklahoma as a solution.

Slopoke, I give you credit. You said it nicer then I would have.

Yeah, I heard about the fleet service stategy employed during these recent negotiations. It went something like this, what ever the AMTs get - we will just go for the "me too deal"! I don't care who he is, he is not an A&P period. Fleet Service Clerks have their own issues to concern themselves with, and AMTs have their own issues. There is no way this clerk is going to represent AMTs with any conviction. Why would he want to? This is just nuts!

Ah, the old "You heard" line, that's always a carved in stone gospel truth isn't it? Refresh my memory again, who isn't voting on a TA?

If the Fleet strategy was "Me Too" we'd be voting this month wouldn't we? "I heard" the International was embarrassed that their negotiators were recommending a No vote on what they brought back as a TA so Little had to make a show of "Suspending the TA" to save face.

At the end of the day, apathy is why you have a FSC about to become your local president.

I find it funny how some A&P mechanics are so elitist. You know you can have a license at something and still not be any good at it. I mean learning about things in school is one thing, applying it in the real world is another. Its like people that get straight A's taking a class but when it comes down to doing the task they can't put any practical application to what they learned. In short, I am sure many of you have met VERY incompetent mechanics or are yourself possibly very incompetent (though I like to think overall AA mechanics have alot of skill and talant).

Also, I will have you know there are several people in Fleet Service in Tulsa right now with A&P's. Some of them have or have had other very technical licenses. That license that you went to school for 2 years for does not impress someone in Fleet Service with a 2 or 4 year college degree I assure you. And outside of aircraft your license is worth nothing, a college degree is. There are more A&P's out there than there are jobs. Maybee you should think about that when you look down your nose at your coworkers. Do not think that your not expendable. What the company wants to do is have 1 licensed mechanic signing off work for a bunch of unlicensed ones. What would make you think that mechanics at the bases would want that??? After all there alot more vulnerable to that situation then a line mechanic.

Im very offended that you don't think ANY Fleet Service clerk could represent 514 (especially since some of them have an A&P and are aspireing to be a mechanic some day). What does having an A&P have to do with being a union head. You have a chairman after all. And mechanics are the majority at the base. Why would someone in his postion want to alienate the majority. I think some of you have had AMFA puffing your ego too long. Geesh.......

I don't think there are any jobs out there offering what AA offers, if there was these whiners would have left in 2003!!!!!
