TWA 767''s

Does anyone know where the retired TW 767''s went to? It will be interesting to see who picks up these a/c. Looks like AirTran will competing with us now with the old TW 717''s.

As of Thursday, 2 in LAX, 6 already in storage in GSO, and one leaving STL for GSO on Friday.

Why is AA storing them rather than returning them to the leasing company? Are they required to keep them until the leases end?

they should replace A300's with the parked 767's.

The leases expire early next year, they're more or less incompatible with the existing AA 767 fleet (different engines, different maintenance requirements), and were no longer needed with the winter schedules that went into effect November 1.

We could probably keep flying them, but there's so much excess capacity in the system right now that it doesn't make sense to keep a dwindling sub-fleet in the air, especially since operating cost increase as the subfleet shrinks.
