Twinkees Dead, Union Charged with Ho-Homicide..

Has anyone heard of a formal offer for the assets of Hostess?

No, but it looks like there may be another serious suitor in the wings:

"Thomasville, Ga.-based Flowers Foods Inc., is reportedly considering a bid for some of the assets of Hostess Inc., which was granted permission to begin the liquidation process last week.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Flower Foods, the maker of Tastykake and Nature’s Own baked goods, the nation’s second-largest baker by sales behind Grupo Bimbo hasn’t stated an intention to acquire Hostess assets but the company said last week that it had renegotiated lending terms that could allow it to tap additional cash, a signal that it could be gearing up to make a bid."

Thanks! I got wind of that myself but like you said nothing formal yet. Glad I'm an observer and not an interested party in this one.

What no one here has mentioned is an alternate theory as to why the Bakers held firm.

IBT, which was on board with management is not a member of the AFL-CIO. IIRC correctly Richard Trumka spoke out in support of the bakers. Trumka is head of AFL-CIO and has no love for the IBT.

Would Trunka throw 5,000 jobs under the bus to harm the IBT?? IMO the short answer is YES. Trumka is ruthless and ambitious so it wouldn't surprise me a bit.

I heard on my local nonObama approved radio show there was 'tweaking' by the BTMSFGMSMSJSY union telling voters that the company was bluffing and holding out. Also was claimed union was offered a huge controlling interest in the company for their contribution.
Our local Trade Unionist should be able to provide info on these issues unless they go against the union.

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on Monday blasted defunct Twinkie manufacturer Hostess for “unreasonably delaying providing the [Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International] Union with other requested information” and ordered the company to post signs admitting its bad-faith bargaining in its Biddeford, Maine offices.

Signs? That'll show management, even though the company is liquidating faster than the creme filling on a Twinkee melts when left outside in Arizona during July.

For the 18,000 workers who lost their jobs in November when Hostess closed its doors -- this is not good news as Apollo, sources said, plans to outsource distribution to third-party drivers, and there is talk that much of Hostess snack production will be done through existing bakeries, not at one or more of the 33 shuttered Hostess bakeries.
Apollo will purchase and run some plants but will not look to hire all the laid off bakers, sources close to the company said.

Well it looks like Hostess succeeded at overthrowing unions.

Take it away, southwind!

Don't fret ! I'm sure those out of work, skilled, unions workers, will be much better off with ObamaCare and a SnapCard !

That was arrogant and insensitive. Union members or not they are fathers, mothers, sons and daughters. REAL people who worked for a living. Show them the respect anyone who makes a living working for someone else deserves.

I'm curious what you have against unions? I'm not a giant fan of them in their current construct but dude hatred like you express is unhealthy
