twu NYC Transit Strike?

Here is the latest, exerpted from a NY Daily News editorial:

So irrational was his action that a third of Toussaint's executive board voted against the walkout, and TWU International President Michael O'Brien is calling on the strikers "to report to work."

Now this is an editorial but it remains to be seen as to how O'Brien responds to it. Notice that "to report to work" is in quotation marks. The Daily News is a major newspaper and most Local 100 members probably read it. If he says nothing it means that he is in agreement with it but it allows him to disavow it later.

The law also dictated that Rosa Parks sit in the back of the bus. I suppose you think since she knew the law and was not forced to take the bus that she should have just sat in the back until she was able to change it through electoral means?

The fact is that often the best way to change an unfair law is to challenge its legitimacy by violating it.

Is NY State pro-mgmt? Yes, of course it is. Republican Mayor, Republican Governor. NYC is the financial center of the world, however the citizens of NY are not as sheepish as people in other areas and will stand up for themselves once in a while.

That's right. Equate a woman who is fighting for equal rights and to be treated as a human being with greedy elitists who are making more than cops, fireman and teachers with a health plan most of us would kill for. But noooooooooooo that ain't good enough. Yea, that argument will work real well. And you wonder why no one takes you people seriously any more.

I hope they get their asses handed to them.

I think he wanted to show how following the law would not bring change. Civil disobedience would.
This can be supported by countless examples in human history including Rosa Parks’s incident.
Very few societies, if any, have consistently achieved change by following the law.
You chose to twist the meaning of what he wrote for your own reasons.
Unless you don’t have the capacity to understand it, in which case I apologize.

Greedy elitists?

Are you talking about Billionaire Bloomberg and the rich liars running the MTA?

The fact is as far as the Transit Workers, the Cops, Firemen and Teachers are all supporting them, I doubt they would do that if they were "greedy elitists". To me Rosa Parks struggle is similar to that of Local 100, to be treated with dignity and respect.

WELL. IT LOOKS AS IF TOUISSANT IS NOT AS TOUGH AS HE WANTS FOLKS TO THINK. WE ALL KNOW HE'S A HOT HEAD.

New York's 3-Day Transit Strike Ends
AP - 36 minutes ago
NEW YORK - The city's crippling three-day mass transit strike ended Thursday after union leaders — facing mounting fines, possible jail terms and the wrath of millions of commuters — voted to return their 33,000 members to work without a new contract. Union board members who emerged from the organization's headquarters said workers will return to their job sites starting with the next shifts. The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of returning to work, and resuming negotiations with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Yea, he's not nearly as tough as Jim little who can't even spell the word "strike."
I love you pro company sorts who believe no worker has any rights. You are spineless jellyfish. Where the hell do you non-union, pro-company types think you would be in this country had in not been for the creation of unions?

There would be no limits to the hours worked in a day, no holidays, no overtime pay, no health benefits...NOTHING!

You believe only management should get perks and benefits.

We are better off giving away more pay and benefits to save jobs.

We are better off not being allowed to obtain ratification ballots on changes to our labor agreement. We must be saved from ourselves.

We are better off allowing Airline Corporate Exec's play us against each other in a race to lower labor cost instead of being united into one union.

We are better off providing $500 million in productivity improvements via pajama parties without any written guarantees of more food on our table.

We are better off partnering with recipients of the hidden Retention Bonuses that were exposed only after vote tabulated.

We are better off giving our ideas on dollar savings for free rather than be compensated for those via a suggestion or ideas program.

We are better off wearing t-shirts with slogans than to really stand together against the rich attacks on the middle class.

We are better off to fear being replaced so that we do not have to take a stand against a dismal record of 20 plus years of concessions.

We are better off not to speak out against failures of the current organized labor leadership than to be called a loud mouth that will ruin our measley paychecks and paid time off.

We are better to never see the big picture and simply be told to tow the union part line than to question anything that is currently happening within the profession.

Yep, stooges win, we are far better off this way.

We are just plain lucky to have a job brother.

Thats right. The MTA said FINAL OFFER. The TWU said NO and no contract, no work. All of a sudden the Final Offer was no longer final. The MTA now knows that Local 100 means business.

Prior to removal we were meeting with the leaders of Local 100 regularly. Those guys are true unionists and they hate what the likes of Sonny and now his appointee-O'Brien have done to the membership.

From fox News:
The announcement of the approval came outside union headquarters about 3 1/2 hours after state mediators said a possible deal was worked out. It puts the nation's largest mass transit system back in operation while negotiations resume on a new three-year contract.

Roger Toussaint, the combative president of Transport Workers Union Local 100, had recommended that his union's executive board accept the deal.

If he got a deal that is good for his people he will look like a great leader.
Time will tell.
Your comments assume the local retreated, where the facts - mostly press reports up to now - support otherwise.
If they are close to an agreement is only sensible to go back to work, not hot headed.
Just one question ,just for fun:

IS TOUISSANT MORE OR LESS TOUGH AND HOT HEADED THAN DENNIS?
