United To Cut 6,000 More Jobs?

Ronin,

On the one hand you speak of a ‘wildcat’ strike and on the other you propose that you will cross a picket line.

Are you confused?

Lets set the tone for my rantings. I have spent almost half of my adult life with these guys (fellow mechs). I been to their weddings, seen them buy their first house, watched their kids grow up. I have seen some of them die. We have camped, fished, wake boarded, snow boarded, laughed and argued together. We have worked on impossible projects, changed skins, engines, ldg gears and ran enough wire to connect LA. During this we have endured sh*tty work schedules, lousy management and even worse representation. We are now 15yrs into the senority lists, taken wage and benefit cuts, and our workload increases daily. As a maintenance technician I will do everything possible to help ensure we have safe, reliable aircraft, and that our passengers enjoy their experience on our aircraft. I am not preaching IAM bravado, or bullshit slowdowns. I understand that the pension is lost and that other productivity items will likely follow. BUT I WILL NOT STAND FOR THE LOSS OF ONE MORE MAN...PERIOD. I SAY THAT FROM HERE ON OUT, WE ALL WILL SINK OR SWIM, BUT WE WILL DO IT TOGETHER. And if that is not the stance of my union or my "brothers", then I am with the wrong people. And if that is the case, then I will fend for my own. I will work with the company and other groups as much as possible, but the piecemeal blood letting of our memebership stops here and now. Pete McDonald can go f*ck himself and snoop somewhere else for the money. Management is a good start and then you know who after that ( ). And if they don't agree IN WRITING, if they think this is just a bluff, I would rather fall with those I have known so long, than to stay with no one around.

Ronin,

I am not in disagreement with most of your post. But the fact is that we have a contract that was ratified by our membership. I think you remember my dissension regarding the actions of our AMFA ALR’s in regards to the removal of LOA 74-1M and in fact the SFO point has an ALR on recall (only one in the system – I believe).

We are stuck with the contract that we agreed to, but I have ‘no doubt’ that in the not too distant future we will have the opportunity voice our solidarity when the contract is ‘reopened’ for our 2nd round of concessions to save the airline.

JMHO, there will probably be more layoffs up to the contract limit and we are powerless to prevent it (legally). As I do not have a ‘protected’ seniority date, I foresee that I will be ‘cast aside’ in the not too distant future myself. However, I guarantee that my convictions will not change and I will not be here ‘whining’ to you and/or our Brothers and Sisters to sacrifice pay and benefits to save my job. I only hope that we and the rest of the membership stand firm and say ‘NO’ to further concessions, even if I’m ejected.

Let’s focus our anger and energies on that point, be firm in our resolve and consistent in our beliefs.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

You believe in a "FAIR" fight...I believe in WINNING....and that vote was a IAM crock of sh*t that I never agreed to. Read the BOOK OF FIVE RINGS by Miyamoto Musashi and THE ART of WAR by Sun Tzu when you are gone. One will give you the insight of the individual and the other as a collective. Maybe then you'll understand that your adherence to "standard" doctrine was your demise and the demise of your organization.
I hope that this does not happen.

LiveInHotel,

If this is your honest opinion, you are sorely mistaken and misinformed.

Ronin,

I am beginning to understand and agree with your train of thought.
What's the plan?
