A friend of mine who watched as the fire fighters tried to put out the fire wondered why they didn't use the water cannon that punctures the fuselage and sprays in water allowing them to fight the fire with out having to first open the doors. When he and his child took a tour of the fire house the previous year the fire fighter giving the tour explained this cannons capabilities. My friend who witnessed the burning from a distance said it looked like each time they opened a door to the cabin the fire grew with the increase of oxygen. Can anyone explain?

Any idea as to the cause yet? Aircraft problem? Illegal cargo?
Crew first smelled smoke twenty-three minutes prior to scheduled landing and declared emergency. SMOKE/FIRE warning light illuminated three minutes prior to landing. Aircraft burst in to flames upon emergency landing in Philadelphia. Crew evacuated through cockpit windows using escape ropes, were examined for smoke inhalation and released. Total hull loss with zero reportable injuries. Two known pieces of HAZMAT aboard: amyl methyl ketone and tire repair kits.

These guys did a brilliant, by-the-book job of saving their own lives.
