What's new

US 734 at Tampa makes hard landing.

Any weather related reason for the hard landing? At first the news seemed to say Mays hit his head because of the landing, which made me think he didn't have a seat belt on, but later news said something falling from an overhead bin hit him on the head. If cause of death is similar to Natasha Richardson's, the lawyer's will have a field day with this. Lousy landing plus the FA's perhaps neglecting to close the door on the bin (or the latch perhaps being broken??) will result in lawsuit and bad PR for US.

Has there been any word if the tires blew as a result of a poorly executed landing? Could it be possible the plane bounced and then landed on the nose gear? I hope it was a mechanical problem rather then pilot technique. If I remember my 737 days (like decades ago) the 73 was as easy to land as a 172.

I loved Pitchmen, not too crazy about Mays however, but a job is a job, and his style worked.

He seemed like a really nice, sincere guy. But I couldn't stand watching his commercials. All that incessant yelling really irked me. My gut reaction is: The louder the pitch, the less likely I am to buy it. I know the yelling was his job, but I would never purchase anything he pitched because the commercials were so annoying to me.

I just heard about Billy Mays' death 30 minutes ago and now see this. I guess that will make for a more interesting autopsy, specifically if they find any trauma-related cardiovascular issue. I know it is a stretch, but based on the timing of events I am sure it will at least be looked at by the medical examiner.

As for Mays, I liked him. I have been watching Pitchmen and now this....

I see we passed the Law School Sniffing-for-blood-in-the-water Course.

MSNBC reported that Billy Mays was on a US Airways flight that experienced a rough landing, caused by a blown front tire. During an interview with Tampa Bay’s Fox TV affiliate, he told the reporter, “All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping. It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head.â€￾ It was also reported that Billy wasn’t feeling well when he went to bed last night sometime around 10:00 PM. In the morning, emergency workers rushed to his home, and pronounced him dead at 7:45 AM.

And your point is?

I had made that observation even before the luggage falling stuff was public. However, I don't believe in coincidences like that happening and when I see unusual things I look for unusual causes.

Kinda like finding an unusual DFR case and looking for the cause...

Now, do you mind if we stay on topic or would you like to trade more pleasantries?

You seem pretty easy to irk. You annoy many of us but we still leave you alone.

If in fact Mays died from a blow in the head from an object that fell on him , I'd like to know what it was? a piece of the aircraft? an overstuffed suitcase? a kitchen sink?
Perhaps now the FAA and Congress will grow a pair and start regulating carry-on items (size-weight-limit) instead of looking the other way or blaming the airlines as usual

Bill Would Limit Airline Carry on Bags

So now we have two more suspensions for personal attacks and hijacking a thread...any more? I have already closed one thread because of these two---shall I close this one too?

what causes the nose tires to blow during landing? also what would cause any object to come out of the overhead compartment during such a landing?
