US AIRWAYS EAST and WEST SPLIT

Wouldn't it be nice if the "new" USAirways could be a tough competitor that made the competition sweat a little? US puts absolutely NO MUSCLE in their operation. They will NEVER truly "beat" Southwest in PHX but simply tread water. You hear comments about other carriers like, "Don't even THINK about going into MIA or AA will eat you alive" or "Don't try it with Delta or they will force you out of the market". Who runs, hides and fears US? Ummmmmm I think that would be a nobody. All said, this truly is a stupid thread that solves no purpose. US is considered ONE CARRIER for better or worse. It's done regardless of the unrest in employee groups namely the pilot debacle. We'll colonize MARS before we ever, ever, ever see them together as one. Nobody is selling off anything.

I thought PHX was US home base. It must feel bad to be beaten in your own house. AWA and US deserve each other in that bizzarro world!

That would be opposed to the burnt toast that is "the burgh".

PIT didn't do so well against WN, in fact people now depend on WN to get to work.

Maybe it has something to do with living in the Nome, AK of the east.

Living with and surviving the 800 lbs. gorilla for years is something maybe we should learn from. PIT didn't seem to last as long as PHX. Maybe they should discontinue service to PHX. You know how it goes...you can't get there from here, but when you don't go anywhere anyway does it really matter?

Got a little hub envy?

How do you really feel about CLT?

What a bitter pill to swallow.

Yeah, and how did US do against WN in BWI? They got their asses kicked to the curb.

AWA was the only airline to compete with WN.

If it wasn't for AWA, you'd be working retail minimum wage.
Don't worry, Dougie is working toward airline minimum wage as he takes his salary raise .......

US Airways Group Inc. CEO Doug Parker’s saw his pay increase about 7 percent last year as the airline moved out of the red.

Parker’s compensation for the year totaled $2.76 million, up about $180,000 over 2009, according to proxy statements filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The total breaks down like this: salary, $550,000; stock options, $1.12 million; incentive plan, $987,800; and other compensation, $100,762. The latter number includes flight benefits, insurance, club memberships, and 401(k) contributions.

Click here to see what other Arizona CEOs made last year.

The past year saw a rise in revenue for the Tempe-based airline to $11.9 billion, up from $10.5 billion in 2009, but still down a notch from 2008’s $12.1 billion. The company also returned to the black last year with net income of $502 million after two years of losses.

Parker has been chairman and CEO of US Airways since 2005. He is the beneficial owner of 985,680 shares of US Airways stock (NYSE:LCC). Shares closed Friday at $9.09 having moved between $5.70 and $12.26 over the past 52 weeks. The stock ended 2007 at $14.71 a share as the recession began.

Filing Chapter 11 is a great way to compete against WN, HP did that before US. And I guess you dont remember HP getting their loan turned down and have to borrow money from the ATSB to stay in business after 9/11 and Project Zanzibar.

And it was US that proposed the merger and raised the money, not Drunk Dougie and HP.

Pull down in LAS is a great way to compete, gee Doug tucked and ran too.

And being threatened and hours away from the FAA for bad maintenance due to outsourcing and not being able to add one plane to the fleet without FAA approval.

Pot meet Kettle.

... it just doesn't work that way.

Says who?

Delta acquired PanAm's Berlin hub.

Trump acquired the EAL shuttle. Not quite a hub, but similar enough that your argument (and everyone else's that says LCC can't be split up) gets entirely blown out of the water.

There is NOTHING preventing a split up of LCC if that's what the various stockholders, directors and money geeks want.

Only a true moron would make such a statement!, take a good look at BWI, did you have a hub there?, (not), besides why don't you compare a balance sheet, talk about dillusions of grander, heck my advice to you go to your highschool reunion and tell those TALL TALES!

And CO and UA flipped flop hubs years ago, with CO giving up IAD and UA taking it and UA giving up CLE and CO taking it.

And what about HP and CMH?

How fast some people forget.

True, but the Former West employee is the one who threw the stones as if HP and Drunk Dougie are the airline savants.

Ya gotta admit that HP was holding it's own against WN. PHX is supposed to still be profitable. Can anyone say the same about the PSA operation, the Florida Shuttle, BWI?

Then why were they nearing bankruptcy at 9/11 and before the merger?

And why did they file the first time?

Aw, 700 - the first time is old history. How big was WN in the early 90's? Reckon buying 4 747's without the authority to fly them where HP wanted to fly them cost a pretty penny or two?

Nearly every legacy was in sad shape after 911 and most ended up filing BK (US twice in 3 years). But HP didn't did they?

So tell me 700 - if "Drunken Doug" had said "No way Jose" to the merger what would have happened to US?

Solution - Sell off WEST (AW) to Alaska and EAST (US) merge with American :p :D :D :D
Why would American want to tie on a boat anchor? They are already sinking. East would bring nothing to the table for them except a bigger headache.
