US Airways Interim Transition Agreement

Meaningful Discussions

To All US Airways / America West Fleet Service Employees

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Your IAM Negotiating Committee met with the Company this week in CLT resuming negotiations, which could be termed substantive and meaningful in content.

An "Interim Transition Agreement" to provide employment opportunities for our East fleet service employees furloughed to the street at DEN, MCI, MKE, MSP, PHX, SAN, and SEA stations was achieved and agreed upon as outlined in a signed "Letter of Agreement." This should not be construed by the membership as final closure on other employment issues which are to be addressed in continuing negotiations. But, this is a positive step forward by the Company in behalf of their employees.

After many exhaustive hours of work by your Negotiating Committee, an extraordinary comprehensive “Final Agreement " proposal reflecting the many issues raised by our USA / AW membership was presented to the Company at the negotiating table. The Company's initial response to the proposal was less than enthusiastic but not unanticipated by your Committee and reflects the traditional bargaining process between the parties. We believe our proposal will generate a full and through review by the Company of our membership's issues.

The Company was advised in our discussions it was our intent to include our West IAM membership in the current profit sharing plan but that our distribution / qualifying formula was not as yet completed for our West membership.

The membership will be advised when our discussions are resumed with the Company after which they have had an opportunity to fully digest our comprehensive proposal.

"The Company's initial response to the proposal was less than enthusiastic but not unanticipated by your Committee and reflects the traditional bargaining process between the parties. "

do they think the west is not smart enough to know this??? they need to get used to the traditional bargaining of dp and HP mgmt.. again the IAm is being condoscending...

It would also be nice if the union could get back the rest of the East cities that were outsurced last year. But I guess only time will tell us how determined they are about that. Alot of professionals were lost. Everyone have a Safe and Wonderful Labor Day Weekend!! :)

Amen to that!!!!

In the final transition agreement, the East should be considered also.

For instance, if a West employee gets an increased benefit that results in an XXX amount of dollars, then it is only fair that an East employee is given an equal benefit increase of some kind.

For instance, if West is to be brought up to East pay, then East gets no increased benefit in itself. However, if West gets brought up to East pay then an equal benefit should be given to East so that the East employee can enjoy his piece of the pie also. This might mean added overtime or sick time language that the east doesn't receive although the west does. It's just not fair for good honest hard working men and women who have sacrificed everything to not get equal benefit monies.

regards,

After the 22 easties idioic display of maturity and leadership went sour
does the west really think this guy is going to look after
their best interests? i.m.o. he will sell the west out to try to get his boys back..... sit back and watch.
What is Canale thinking letting him sit on the board?

Let's assume a MSP East employee with a seniority of 1/1/1990 gets called back. How is that right to a CHS employee that got furloughed in 2005 with a seniority of 1/1/1980? There is no (or there used to be no)station seniority - there is system seniority.

I have no problem with the company expanding and contracting stations as the market dictates. They can create as many or as few slots as they please, but who fills those slots have historically and contractually been dictated by seniority.

This thing is going to be an additional sell-out a major union 'principle' - seniority.

Another question: Is the MSP recall going to get all of his seniority restored? If so, why can't the CHS employee accept a slot in CLT (I understand they've hired off the street) and get his seniority restored? You can see this gets complicated quickly.

Of course, with Armedio on the scene (he was one of the powers behind the scenes selling out thirty stations last year), who could expect anything different?

And at the end of the day, the district and international signs off on it.

"An injury to one is an injury to all?" My a$$.

How many US people were cut when they contracted out the ramp in MSP? I know that West is hiring people off the street in MSP for fleet services, and how will this affect them. Will they all be cut?
