They are, they voted down two tentative agreements and many can qualify for food stamps, don't let the facts get in your way. And that's 450 more union members.

Its only $20.35 an hour, thats when the doors close, engines spin and plane moves, they are only guaranteed 70 hours a month, which works out to just over $17,000 a year.

To sit on call and be on reserve.

Last in first out .........

i hope they know that if we merge with American , layoffs are likely ...

16.500 apply for a job that essentially pays McDonalds level wages.

Where is Mr Hope & Change? Vacationing in HI again? Or figuring out new and different ways to screw us all? Thought he was the "messiah" going to create all these jobs?

Yeah, the economy is soooo robust that 450 jobs that pay food stamp wages get 16,500 applicants. Impressive. Not my fault! I voted for Dr. Paul

Exactly why US shouldn't put more money on the table in FA agreement. Plenty are willing to undercut their wage and benefit requirements, US would be silly to pay them more. If you are at an intersection and one gas station is $3.39/gallon and another is $3.35/gallon which one would you buy gas from? This is the labor market at work.

but FA's are horribly underpaid

16,500 people apply for a job that pay barely above minimum wage, offering no set schedule, and forget trying to figure childcare obligations subject to overnight stays with varying days and paying for it.

Symbolic of the state of the economy, as I recall a few years ago the Company was paying PHX employees $500 for referring someone to work the ramp and the new hire just had to stay for a year. I think the last time we hired anyone for PHX ramp or brought in transfers was about 9 months ago.

Of these 16,500, only 700 of these or 4.2% have advanced to the interview stage, according to the article. Of those, only a certain number will be offered employment, excluding of course those that cannot pass drug and security screening. Then there will be those that don't survive or graduate training. Of those that actually end up becoming FA's, how many will remain on the payroll after a year's time enjoying the US in-flight experience as a reserve?

That there are 16,500 people willing to "undercut" wages is itself a meaningless figure if so few can be appreciably employed after the costs of employing them. Offer less pay, enjoy lower rates of retention. The labor market works perfectly so long as you don't care if anyone willing to work cheap enough actually can do the job you're hiring them for.

Not my fault! I voted for Dr. Paul

How would having Ron Paul as President-elect decrease the number of people applying for job openings at US Airways? Sounds like you're butthurt because your job-creating messiah didn't win.

So explain to me and the board how a CBA that was negotiated in 2005 is Obama's fault?

Your are so blinded by your hatred its crazy, so how would Ron Paul force US Airways to pay more?

Yeah, and Ron Paul did sooooo well, because only the fringe swallowed his BS.

I'm not taking either side in this, but it's pretty obvious that the comment was regarding the state of the current economy as well as the quality of the wages for new hires. I can't see how anyone could read that as blaming the president for the quality of the CBA.

Jokes (or sarcastic commentary) always lose something in the explanation.

That was not a joke or sarcastic commentary. Apparently your interpretation of Sparrows ignorant comment was obiously wrong. Can't you spot the haters and the extreme when they open their mouths. Amazing how they bring Obama into every conversation no matter what the subject may be. Those types of people are on the fringe and have other underlying issues distorting theirs lives. I don't even feel sorry for them.

Back on topic. Here at AA, we advertised for newhire f/as back in December. The company cut off applications when they hit 25,000! From what I am hearing, most of those who have been interviewed so far have been rejected as "unsuitable." I wonder if any of them realize that if there is a merger, new hires on both sides would be in danger of being furloughed.

That PR, following everyone else's PRs about how many people applied for their F/A positions, screams to me: "SEE, WE'RE STILL RELEVANT... SEE HOW MUCH THEY LOVE US?!!!!!!"

The need for attention coming from US Airways executives.... What a pitty....
