US Airways Spurs Job Rush as 16,500 Vie for 450 Vacancies

This is laughable. A couple of months back a new hire actually walked off the plane in the city she called home. Crew sked had to scramble to get a replacement f/a. The fed up f/a sent her company ID and manual back to base with the delayed flight. And basically told US to go h@##.

Sounds very US Airways.... saw similar things happening many times back in 2006/7/8. Many people going on F-you tirades while walking off the job. Others also left to Virgin America and took their US badge with them so that they continue jump seating on other airlines.

I pity the 450 that do actually make it through the selection process.

They left for Virgin America? Have they seen their pay scales and work rules? Woops. lol

They'll be fine. Been great groups hired since 2011. A joy to work with, and most know the reserve deal before even graduating from training.

Urban legend. Never happened. This story has been going around for 30+ years. Years ago, it was a new hire on the MD80 in TPA I believe....

I know 🙂 I asked a friend that went there and he said it was just as bad, but in other ways. But there are lots of others that have upgraded to United, Delta and JetBlue as well, and say that US, by far, is the worst.

I wish I as a baggage handler could be a FA on the side , I think cross utilization would be fun .

Itestwell,

Yes, this really did happen. The place she called home just happened to be Tel Aviv. And by the time scheduling got this all worked out, it was quite an ordeal for all involved.

I would pay to sit on those flights with a few cross-trained, mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, drooling bagmashers doubling as flight attendents. Good for bags, bad for passengers. Something to be said for the specialization of labor.

Someone's telling you stories. Just checked. And it wouldn't be a big deal; they would fly back with just 9 FAs.

Back in the day HP did cross utilize and did do different jobs including inflight.

And I guess you like to insult yourself and other rampers with your insults.

The only instance of anything like this taking place that I can recall, is when PE cross-utilized gate agents & F/A's.

Another reminder to yourself and everyone else of how vastly overqualified you are for the job? Must be some view from your altitude. Personally, if given the choice between being an object of that contempt or a purveyor I'd choose the former...
