On this day in 1814, Francis Scott Key pens a poem which is later set to music and in 1931 becomes America’s national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The poem, originally titled “The Defence of Fort McHenry,” was written after Key witnessed the Maryland fort being bombarded by the British during the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the sight of a lone U.S. flag still flying over Fort McHenry at daybreak, as reflected in the now-famous words of the “Star-Spangled Banner”: “And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.”

The melody Francis Scott Key used for his song was the popular English tune known as “To Anacreon in Heaven” (MP3). Anacreon was an ancient Greek poet noted for his praise of love and wine. Written about 1775 by John Stafford Smith, the tune was originally the “constitutional song” of the Anacreontic Society, a gentlemen's music club in London.

The fact is, that there was no evidence that OBL was going to be " available " for the length of time it woukd take to make the strike, and every indication that the strike would result in the killing large number of innocents, while accomplishing nothing.
The other reality is that this president has had to deal with the mess the previous morons with the tough guy, go it alone, invade first and figure out what to do with it later - and then screw that up so badly that we fet ISIS and ten years of the wrong war out of it, left behind.
