Hope you got your letter about US Airway's new reading program. Books will be on board all flights.
Our first pick is:

although i know your trying to be funny. please let's not turn this into a negative thing . this is a very good thing that usairways and the do-crew are doing. we wil partner with (rif) reading is fundamental and promote reading to children . there will be an event in the hangar on feb 29th at 830 am that all employees are welcome to attend kicking off the venture so please join us if you can. i and another f/a will be part of the events representing the usairways f/a team. events will be held in phl, clt, and phx. on feb 29th.

I too think it's a very nice thing to do.

However, one must question the timing of the announcement. IMO This is nothing more than another cheap shot at Employees and Elite Customers designed to deflect the easily distracted media from the real issues facing US AIrways.
i have to disagree with you on that piney. this is community relations getting involved in important issues affecting many children out there which literacy is one of them. we all know that things are not hunky dory at usairways but that dosen't mean we can't get involved with the communities we serve.

I can see the kiddies all gathered around the sandbox reading to each other.

How touching.

Etops I agree with you 100%. From a former teacher who will probably be returning to the classroom sooner rather than later, I must say it is important to promote literacy. No matter how screwed up US Airways is or how many bad decisions they make that affect us, this is not the thread to point out their wrong doings. Doing something good for the community and helping to educate our children, who are our future, is nothing to make fun of. I know when I was teaching, promoting literacy and inspiring my students to read was one of my top priorities. So for those of you who feel the need to bash US Airways as usual, then go do it somewhere else. There are plenty of other threads waiting for you to bash away. This is not the place for that! Etops, do you know if they need any volunteers in CLT?

How about if we take it for face value.

Its is harmless at worst and a good thing at best.

I can understand the cynical reaction but not everything has an ulterior motive.

Piney, I agree with you. This is nothing more than US Airways trying to paint itself in a good light. Do you think a company that treats employees and customers the way they do would really care about literacy. They don't care about anything excpept making money and trying to make themselves look good.

Had to add my two cents on THIS ONE. I agree with the comment made above along with Piney. I personally feel the entire "Do Crew" Program is nothing more that Corporate Window Dressing to give the appearance of a Warm & Fuzzy Feeling for the communities they serve......and all for Appearance Stakes. When I saw the topic of a Children's Reading Program though, the first person I thought that needed a crash course tutorial is that one female who babbles/stumbles/mispronounces and sounds like a certifiable idiot on US Daily. For anyone who has ever called in YOU know who I am referring too. And IF she has a position in Corporate Communications.........that's par for the course. (But I'm sure some will say "She's REAL Nice or Is a Lot of Fun". Bottomline, the bimbo CAN'T READ and shouldn't be reading Corporate NEWS!)

Sorry, folks. I can't get on board with this. Whereas raising literacy awareness is a good thing, it's not where an airline should spending its resources.

US Airways needs to be improving its product to the exclusion of all else until it gets it right. After that is completed can they go on to help the rest of us learn to read, clean up the environment, support charities and the like.

These distractions will continue to plague the chances of success, unless success is no longer the goal. Most of you know what my opinion is on that subject.

some of you amaze me sometimes.

Let me get this straight- this is an evil corporate plot to smoke screen the media to ignore US operational statistics AND to sink the presumed future success of the U.

Many charities accept money from questionable people-does it make the contribution any less useful?

Sometimes people aren't happy unless they are complaining and that means a lot here since complaining is a "sport" in PHL.

Geez- the NBA has multi millionaires reading to kids. We all know this is crap but does it help kids?

Probably-when the check gets cashed.

thank you .

Hey, I didn't say it was a bad thing. I think it's a great thing.

The kids will have something to read while Mom and Dad search for their luggage.
