US to start CLT-MLB

Once again, it should read, USAirways is reentering [fill in the blank], a market that it previously abandoned and ceeded to [fill in the blank] airlines and now will have to attempt to regain its previous market share.

I am sure the previous mainline service is to be outsourced to express.

This isn't USAirways new service. It's USAirways Express new service.

If they could open new European cities with outsourced RJs, they would be doing that, too.

Does anyone even recall when the last time was that this company opened a new domestic city with real mainline aircraft?

You would rather have a 737 losing money having a 40% load or have a feeder help fill your International or domestic routes?

But this flight will feed other mainline flights out of CLT. So, while Express operates this flight, it will also add revenue to other mainline CLT flights.

Reading today's Florida Today (11/10) it looks like MLB will be waiving approx $850K in certain fees and charges for US Airways/PSA until Feb 2012. A very smart move on MLBs part as I doubt US would be adding service without the airport concessions. At least MLB knows how to attract expansion unlike a certain western PA airport, but that's for another thread!

CLT-PDX and CLT-SMF were new mainline adds, albeit seasonal ones. Also, CLT-SAT was (re)started in May 2008 with 2 CR9s but will be all mainline as of this Jan, though your point is well taken as examples like these are hard to find.

Oh, and I almost forgot about CLT-HNL. Wait, nevermind, you said domestic cities

As it relates to MLB though, there's no way that this route would've ever been relaunched with mainline. It's a different marketplace now than it was 12 years ago. Even DL is down to one daily M88 flight there, with the other 5 being operated by CRJs.

i would rather have an emb that is owned operated and serviced by usairways. this mindset is how we got more then half the airline outsourced to be bought by the outsourcee. its become accepted that the legacy carriers outsource a major % of the flying. total BS!
