USAirways/America West Merger Talks -WSJ

That used to be the old mentality. However, now that the LCC cat is out of the bag, if the price is right people will come. On top of that, a combined US/HP will pretty much cover the entire U.S., most of the Caribbean, Mexico's hot spots, and the biggest cities in Europe. What other LCC offers that? Nobody.

And US/HP won't either. Why? Because combined they won't be a LCC. They might be a quasi-LCC, but won't come close to approaching the LCC status of B6 or WN.

Are you sure about that?

Being a LCC is more than having cheap labor. The operating model of HP right now is not very LCC in my opinion. It is moreso than the legacies, but not yet a WN or B6.

Yes, I very much like our livery and prefer it over yours.

I agree. Although the paint scheme may look out of place in the east, in the desert background and sunshine of PHX it looks pretty darn good IMHO.

Skeezer

Where are HP's crew bases, and what do there uniforms look like?

Name for new company...Metro JetAirlines 🙂

Crew Bases for USAirways are:

LGA, Bos, DCA, PHL, CLT, PIT...and our uniforms haven't really changed since 1989. Hope the combined airline will be casual, shorts and polo shirts. Yeah, I know it is premature and all speculative, but man it is nice to having something else to focus on other than impending doom and gloom.

US Airways-America West deal faces many obstacles - Merger has been in the works for months

US Airways also explored a merger in the last year and a half with United Airlines

PITTSBURGH (Post-Gazette) - Despite the hullabaloo this week about a US Airways-America West merger, talks between the two carriers go back 12 to 18 months -- part of a larger campaign by US Airways to find partners willing to help it out of a financial morass, according to a former executive familiar with the discussions.

US Airways also explored a merger in the last year and a half with United Airlines, the former executive said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The conversations with United, bankrupt since 2002, "never completely died," he said, adding he was not sure if those talks had ended.

Neither US Airways nor United would comment on whether new discussions between the pair had occurred since their merger deal fell apart in the summer of 2001.

It all comes down to individual taste, the black (they look black to me) planes just remind me of soot, and the minimalist tail is boring.

At least AWA has some life to it, some interesting color and composition.

Now, if I had my way, the Brannif pastels would be back!

BTW, I saw some Metrojets a few weeks ago at BKK, flying for Phuket Air, a disaster waiting to happen, they didn't even change the red/black scheme.

Not Sure? sounds like a great source of information

The paint scheme that US Airways currently flies is very professional. It was created by the 'wolf" and as nice as it may look it reminds me of him everytime i look up or get on one. As for America West, the scheme IMO is very festive and very southwestern but kinda reminds me of the flintstones. The scheme honestly does not matter nor does a name. Hello "Hooters".... What do you think of when you hear Hooters? I think of the girls in their cut off shirts and guys with greasy fingers from wings burping beer.... but they sure are packing the planes with cheap fares to myrtle beach. You could fly a cesna out of your backyard and call it whatever you want. For $29.00 you will have them lining up your driveway to get on that sucker.

Well I guess they could always buy up the Braniff International name....or Pan Am. Don't think that railroad co. that owns it is doing much with it nowadays.

Pilots are based in PHX and a relatively small base in LAS.

F/A's are all based in PHX with the exception of a small reserve base (20-30) in LAS.

I can't find any public site from which I can link uniform photos. We do not have any truly casual option.

Gee...

If this deal has, "been in the works for months," how come USA320Pilot did not inform us of it and go on ad naseum about it?

I thought USA320Pilot spoke personally with the CEO, media, and analysts, et al and has his "ear to the ground".

Yet all these months, he's been going on and on about a UAL "UCT" as if it was going to happen. For all we know, the anonymous source sited in the article IS USA320Pilot.

Hmmm... Sounds like time for a hearing aid.
