Vol Furlough Info Out

To think we always talk about management being mixed up. This is ridiculous and just shows that at times the UNION is jacked up. Some things will NEVER change. 🙄 The outrage! ! ! !

PHL88, the union was all for dental and medical, but the company would not agree unless the VF's were base specific (which is a seniority violation). Your MEC's didn't screw anyone...

Actually it DOES screw employees. IF they are overstaffed in CLT and PHL why NOT offer it to that base only? Ok it's a seniority violation but tell that to the the people that may get displaced because someone from BOS, or LGA wants the VF. How many other side letters do we have NOW? The problem isn't THERE but the big bases. This is proof positive of how BACK ASSWARDS this union/company can be. 🙄

This is completely outrageous!!! Once again, Ann and her cronies show clearly their COMPLETE AND UTTER DISREGARD for the Reserves!

I'm not surprised at all, but totally disgusted!

So great! A higher paid blockholder that was willing to take a leave because the company WILLINGLY OFFERED medical benefits (win for blockholders) will now be less likely to take a voluntary furlough, and the Junior meagerly paid flight attendants THAT JUST CAME BACK will now be furloughed or displaced???!!!

Great job AFA!!! (sarcasm intended) You truly show us why you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT LOOK OUT FOR OUR BEST INTERESTS Blockholder and Reserve alike!!!

Needless to say I will be on the phone like a MAD DOG tomorrow out for BLOOD!

AFA has proven completely worthless to me as a Reserve. And likewise in this case, has settled for something LESS than the company was proposing!!!! WTF???!!!

Ann & Company better not ever cross my path. It WON'T be pretty! I urge all to get involved and contact AFA telling them what a horrible and detrimental choice was truly made for ALL involved!!!

Amen Flyguy121! If I get an involuntary furlough, I am done with this place. Over 95% of this place is on A scale. You can get hired at DELTA and be treated better as a new hire than a 9 year reserve at this hole. Only 6 days of reserve a month and the rest trips, right out of new hire training. Whatever, blockholders can't let go of the AIL security blanket.

How did anyone get screwed? It will be a system bid. Any F/A can put in for it!
I totally agree with you. It DOES need to be a system bid---not by base only. It is short sighted to not uphold the contract and past practice for what the future might hold. Seriously, adding side letter after side letter in the past has gotten us where we are with the 45 letters before John wanted to add #46.

This is not about one or two bases in particular, this is about the F/A seniority system as a whole. If you are very senior and based in BOS, DCA or LGA but it is not offered to you then what good is your seniority? JM needs to look at the membership as a whole---not just what's going to benefit his own base---- that, my fellow F/As, is keeping solidarity intact.

Finally someone who gets it! Beside the fact that the company could still offer benefits if it wanted too!

So lets f over the Jr guys/gals again for senority rights? Boy you guys are a piece of work, I tell ya.

Are you F'ing kidding me? That is just what them MEC set out to do...lol you know better than that! Quit trying to stir the pot and let's see how many people put in for it first. Are you saying we should f over the Sr men/ladies for the rights of Jr guys/gals? Senority is how things are done period. If we start making exceptions now it will never stop!

I can see both sides.

Contractually, the FA's from *all* bases have a right to bid for a VF. This is not being selfish or short sighted at all. Why should the other bases agree to a base specific furlough? If I were in BOS, and my MEC voted for this, I would be upset.

People are already shouting that the other bases threw the junior reserves "under the bus" yet again. But, what if you were a FA in BOS, CLT, DCA, LGA that wanted to take, and were contractually entitled to, a VF?

I see where John was going with this, and I am glad he put up the good fight, but the MEC's position is to look out for the interests of their FA's as well, not just PHL.

That said, I think senior FA's will be gobbling up these packages faster than the leftover fruit and cheese trays going to Europe......

I Think we could get 150 by noon tomorrow!

Decisions like this can be very difficult for those representing the flight attendants. As an outsider this is what I see. MEC's collectively (NOT) that take personal interests in only those cities they represent. It is about bargaining strength.

In order to effectively represent everyone they must seperate personal feelings and do what is right for the WHOLE group. It will only get more difficult if the east and west finally merge. When that happens they must consider east and west collectively.

To add another side letter for the personal gains of certain groups is also wrong. You have to remember that if number 46 would be passed the company would want something greater in return which would effect more in a negative way. It is time to sit back and let the company offer number 46. My opinion only. They will never satisfy the whole F/A group but must keep an open mind and only act on what is good for all, senior or junior. It is about keeping jobs, not looking for some to get off work and collect unemployment. Jobs for justice is the bottom line.

The "Screw Factor" is this:

AFA went for a system bid furlough on the East instead of a base furlough: translation: PHL.

Why? Because undoubtedly DCA, PIT and BOS have the idea that they want a piece of the pie. Fine, the contract does provide for that.

You mean CLT, right?
Pit is gone.

I know enough to know that a union that doesn't adapt to the times and make tough decision is useless. I know it's a hard decision but if your not wiling to make them for the true intent of the VF (to save as many jobs as possible) then why bother running for office? This MEC won't rock the boat to save their life.
I understand they didn't want to "tinker" so to speak with current contract language but I think it's incredibly short sighted not to explore all options to get the best result. So yes, I can see both sides I just think the offer on the table was better. So what if they don't get the 200? Will they be ok with that knowing they had the ability to save JR jobs with medical? I think everyone is seeing this like bidding a primary line or something. This is about saving jobs of people that want to stay here without disruptions of life. Never mind. I think you all get it, you just don't like the reflection it's showing.
And IMiss- since when is having a strong heartfelt objection to something "stirring the pot". Oh I forgot in AFA thats not allowed. 😉
