What's new

Wal-Mart

Here's the thing dell..in many cases Walmart gets to KEEP a portion of the sales taxes. Mom and Pop shops aren't given that luxury. So my tax dollars are helping put Mom and Pop out of buisness and I don't like it. And if those "maroons" had half a brain, they would look at the REAL impact Walmart has on them. For example, since Walmart employees are paid so little that they can't afford a health insurance plan, many turn to the local PUBLIC health department...health care paid for with YOUR tax dollars.

That's the beauty of Obamacare, now that everyone is required to have HC, YOUR tax dollars are going to subsidize THEIR HC due to their wage level.

I am anxiously awaiting the reality of HC when all these young smacks who vote because he's cool wake up to the $750 misunderstanding. I'm sure there will be mucho waa waa.

Already his middle class supporters got hemorrhoids over their paychecks....LOL

C'MON fellas. Lighten up on the 'Good ol' Boys' from Bentonville Arkansas will ya' !

Hey, speaking of Walmart,..the B O SS is going to make W-M an 'offer they can't refuse' with regard to the new GUN CONTROL (coming to a state near you SOON), by playing them AGAINST the F'n...N R A.

If I was that NRA Douche-Bag Wayne La Pierre, I'd be keeping a tube of K-Y handy ! : )
Walmart will crush Biden !

Some people have a short memory ! According to your Supreme Ruler, Mom and Pop "DID" have help building their business !

Ah Wal-Mart!

Where to start. I'm opposed to any kind of welfare be it corporate or personal. The success or failure of a entity such as Wal-Mart should be determined by the free market.

We got a Wal-Mart in the town I lived in when there weren't that many on the East Coast and what a difference 15 years makes. Wal-Mart had taken an option on a nice site. Only problem is it was zoned light industrial and they needed a variance. So they're trying to bully the zoning board as they always do. Threatening lawsuits and all of that. Our "Town Fathers" knew that other local communities would reject them through public protest and all manner of resistance as they were typical liberal NIMBY types. Wal-Mart was stuck with us as the only viable site for 20 miles.

So the Zoning folks, the school board and township commisioners sat down with Wal-Mart and told them point blank, "You will pay for the improvements to the intersection, You will supply the school district with new computers for EVERY High School student for 5 years and we will grant you a variance & you can have your store. Otherwise we'll just drag the fight out 10 years in court and approve someone else". Wal-Mart caved and as soon as Target wanted in they got set up very close by.

The folks who actually do their homework on Wal-Mart actually are Wal-Marts worst nightmare. They can be beaten and forced to be good local corporate citizens you just need "Big Picture" politicians and not Crony Capitalists.

Maybe so...Walmart was just ahead of the curve because those low prices every day were depending on you to pay for their employee's medical care - even back when Bush, Clinton, HW Bush and St Ronnie of Redondo was in office.

Some people have a short memory ! According to your Supreme Ruler, Mom and Pop "DID" have help building their business !

Yes southwind....they did. The roads that the customer used to get to the shop were paid for by taxes. Walmart just got lots MORE help...from the very businesses that they put under.

Not the same help.
Help, nonetheless !

And see, that's where you and I differ. No one helped Mom and Pops build their business.................."THEY" paid taxes, for roads as individuals, before they became business owners and taxes as business owners , afterwards, mortgaged "Their" lives and worked 80 hour per week, so they could continue to pay taxes for those roads !

Tax icentives are silly. A true race to the bottom. Here's a perfect example, google was looking to place a server farm. They needed land and utilities. Lenoirr NC had the utilities left over from furniture factories but the local politicians had to cobble the land together from families the owned it for generations. They weTre successful but then google demanded tax incentives or the will put farm elswhere. Meanwhile, they were doing the samething in south carolina. A bidding war ensued. Both towns essentially gave the keys away because they needed new business. Google opened a farm in each town. Each farm employs 50 people. None are local. They contract landscaping, janitorial, maintenance work to lowest bidder from across the state, no money stays local. No tax revenue. Lenoir came out quite poorly. Not a wise politician in the bunch.

Hey..'southwind.

My taxes mixed with their taxes to build that road. Now...this thread is about Walmart, and how Walmart uses government aid in the form of tax breaks that mom and pop never got. The shortfall in taxes paid by Walmart has to be made up somewhere, and it turns out that it's the mom and pop shop. And me. And you. Defend that.

Tax icentives are silly.

Indeed they are. For real fun, live in a "border city". I live in Prarie Village, Kansas and the Missour State line is a little over a mile from my front door. The road between the two states is aptly enough called "State Line Road". Many of my neighbors work in Missouri. In the name of "job creation", the state of Kansas offers incentives for companies to move and the net effect is a net LOSS of tax revenue.

Case in point - Select Quote (insurance) is currently located in Kansas City MIssouri at 92nd Street and State Line. Kansas offered them a sweet deal, including a provision that will allow them to keep 95% of the employee withholding tax for between 5 and 7 years. So they opted to move down to 89th Street and State Line Road in Leawood, Kansas. 3 blocks down the same street. It is HIGHLY unlikely that a person in KCMO is going to relocate to Kansas to be "closer to the office". And half or more of the employees ALREADY LIVE in Kansas, so the net effect is - 95% of the withholding that WAS going to the state for those employees is being kept by SelectQuote. But Sam Brownback, governor of Kansas, will point to these and other jobs that moved less than 5 miles as jobs "created" by his administration.

Wal-Mart in many ways is the single most valid argument for government managing the economy. As long as the Sheeple keep buying, they'll keep selling and their business practices will continue unabated.

The article I linked is from PolicyMic, not exactly a beacon of liberal/progressive thought. If PolicyMic comes down on your business practices I'd say you're doing something wrong.

Wal-Mart has made itself a target for Organized Labor and frankly despite their ability to resist to date this is just bad business in my mind

Along the way to that site I read how Wal Mart plays its game. Apparently they continue to pressure vendors into keeping costs down which results in cheaper made goods for cheaper prices which also drives the consumer to expect the Wal Mart price for a microwave to be the standard and anything different from those prices is wrong, yet in actuality it is a lower priced inferior product.

The 'Old Man' Sam Walton MUST HAVE watched, and re-watched "the GODFATHER" numerous times, and LEARNED a very Valuable(for him) Lesson, ...when he heard Marlon Brando utter that very TRUE and Time proven saying..... "I'm gonna' make him an OFFER he CAN'T refuse" !!!!!
Because thats how Walmart has Succeeded (aka.....Thrown their WEIGHT around)..all these years.
WOW. A Mafiosi from ARKANSAS. Who'd of thought it possible ?
