Website issue or pricing issue?

I just booked award travel PIT/MIA via CLT for 50,000 miles (FC) for March '07. I have a friend trying to book the same CLT/MIA segments that I am on and it's 100,000 miles. Could the mileage be an issue with the website or is that normal?

When checking to purchase the same flights, booking US it's $706. Booking the same flights through code share with UA flight numbers it's $208. What's up with this??

Each airline sets its own price for their flights regardless of which metal its on. This is why you need to call both carriers to check on the prices before booking. Works the opposite way as well depending on the markets. :unsure:

It's 50k for the extremely capacity controlled saver, and 100k for the lightly capacity controlled premium award. Apparently, they've run out of saver seats, so your friend is being quoted the premium award price.

I think a premium first seat for 100k miles is a waste of miles, but maybe it's worth it to your friend.

And fares have absolutely zero to do with the number of award seats available. And if UA wants to continue losing money, that's their problem.
