If US is awarded the China route, US must already have an order placed so that the route can begin in late 2008. When do you guys think that an order will be made? At the same time the narrow-bodies will be placed?

You cannot order a widebody today from Boeing or Airbus and get it in a year.

If they believe that they need a plane fast, I imagine it will have to come from a leasing company. They probably figure that and would soak up the cost. Even if the lease is for 4-5 years until they can get delivery of a sufficient aircraft, the fee may be worth paying. I do believe that they can't sit and wait and let everything continue to pass them by. I think its foolish already not having it by now.

Your original post says ORDER as does the name of the thread, not leasing.

Just replying to YOUR use of the word order.

Sorry 700UW I ment "anyway" US could get ahold of wide-bodies. Just wondering when an anouncement might come.

I believe 700UW was pertaining to my opening sentence. I edited it out. Sorry for the misread.

I thought I saw somewhere that Airbus was going to start a ramp up in production of A330s. I didn't read about it, so I don't know when this is supposed to go into place, but could US possibly take some of those early ramp up slots? If Airbus were to start producing more soon, US could infact receive a new A330 (A330-200) within a year, in time to serve the route. Does anyone know anything about this A330 ramp up and when it will go into effect?

Airbus is ramping up production of the A320 family, from the current 32/month to 36/month by the end of 2008. I haven't seen anything specifically on the A330, though that certainly doesn't mean anything.

Just looking at A330 orders placed recently, it looks like the earliest deliveries are for 2009, although that could be when the customer wanted rather than a lack of earlier delivery positions.

FWIW, the A330-200 would be marginal PHL-China. Even Airbus says that it is a West Coast-Asia airplane.

One thing to remember the former HP management seemed to have a taste for 'used" aircraft and with the delivery times at both Boeing and Airbus that is probably the short term at least likely outcome.

I figure they will get Republic to use the E-175's, with
Mid-Air refuling to keep the operating costs down...

I actually saw on another website, that we may get 2 A340-500s in June from Air Canada when their first 777s come in.

P.S> US must have been planning this for atleast a few months, why not but the ex Varig 777s? I know atleast one is being scrapped in a few weeks.

If true, that's some salient news that hasn't filtered over to this knowledgeable group for comment. Why would AC dump two perfectly good, relatively new, widebodies instead of re-allocate them?

I believe that the 777 would be a new aircraft to the certificate and would be a lot of paper work and tons of additional training. I might be wrong but A340 is a common type rating with the A330 and only needs differences training for the crews and is less paper work as well.

I think the ex-Varig 777's are the older A models. Not nearly enough range for a PHX-Asia run.

Glass will dangle a carrot (a/c) and tied it to the transition agreement. This has all been done before. For the life of me I can not understand why ALPA allow for ninety-three (93) CRJ-900, or other aircraft within the seating and maximum take-off weight limits to be outsource all the while Parker said LCC had to many RJ's.LCC was getting rid of main line a/c and LCC needed more a/c quick and fast. This was an excellent bargaining tool. ALPA gave this to management for the E190.Was it worth more? Here ALPA sits at the table with less to negotiate. Glass is a world-class negotiator he is writing his book/bio on LCC's back.
