US Airways is negotiating with Boeing, Airbus, and third parties on a new aircraft order for about 100 jets. From different sources the order will include a new long-range widebody, B757 replacement, and narrow body replacement aircraft. These aircraft would be in addition to the firm 37 A320 family aircraft and the firm 25 EMB-190 aircraft (with 32 options) orders, and could adjust the A350 order.
Here is what I know:
- According to the CLT Observer on February 10, US Airways spokesman Phil Gee said the airline would likely acquire a widebody plane such as the B777 or Airbus A340 (for China and other new service).
- During the most recent PHX Crew News Broadcast on theHub.com, Doug Parker indicated the company is talking to both Boeing and Airbus about a new aircraft order for about 100 aircraft for B757 and B737 replacements.
- Numerous news media reports indicate US Airways is talking with both Boeing and Airbus for about 60 narrowbody aircraft to replace the B737s (part of the 100 total).
