What's new

When will we see a wide-body order placed?

If true, that's some salient news that hasn't filtered over to this knowledgeable group for comment. Why would AC dump two perfectly good, relatively new, widebodies instead of re-allocate them?
AC has decided to replace its 340s with 777s (and 767s with 787s). Apparently, AC has been very disappointed in the performance of the A340.

I figure they will get Republic to use the E-175's, with
Mid-Air refuling to keep the operating costs down...

I move to officially ban comments like this. They are so unfunny to read now for the 1000th time that it is painful. Can someone come up with something more original please when these sort of topics come up. I would rather put salt in an open wound than read one of these lame posts again.

I ordered a widebody just this week. I ordered her to get her fat ass out of the jumpseat and help me pass out these Dave's Donuts.

Really? Are you into hurting yourself? I think there is a medical term for that....

Wolf decide to buy the cheapest engines for the 330, so getting stronger engines may not be bad, even if its going to cost more.

So is AC planning on getting rid of ALL it's wide-bodied airbuses? or just the 340s?

You've got to spend a buck to make a buck. Being cheap doesn't last for long, especially when the stuff has to be replaced in a shorter time span and costing more in the long run. Better to get it right the first time. That would be a new approach for Tempe. They couldn't get the retro jets correct the first time, so NOW would be a good time to start.

They have ordered 18 777s with purchase rights for another 18. So I would guess that they intend to get rid of all the Airbus widebodies.

This order was a bid win for Boeing, particularly considering how young the AC widebody fleet is.

For the life of me I can not understand why ALPA allow for ninety-three (93) CRJ-900, or other aircraft within the seating and maximum take-off weight limits to be outsource all the wile Parker said LCC had to many RJ’s.LCC was getting rid of main line a/c and LCC needed more a/c quick and fast. This was an excellent bargaining tool. ALPA gave this to management for the E190.Was it worth more? Here ALPA sits at the table with less to negotiate. Glass is a word class negotiator he is writing his book/bio on LCC back.

Don't you understand? The CLT and DCA pilots will tell you that we HAVE to do all this because management says that is what will save the airline!

Give them what they need; give them what they want; give them what they THINK they want!

Just let my daddy vote and we can live to fight another day.

Luckily for management, there is nothing these pilots find worth fighting for (not pensions, not payrates, not benefits, not furloughees, not retirees, not working conditions, and on and on.) So, as long as a paycheck (any deal paycheck) keeps arriving, "another day" to fight will never happen!

I think a DH8-100 would work better.
And the disease of hurting oneself is Munchausen Syndrome.

US Airways is negotiating with Boeing, Airbus, and third parties on a new aircraft order for about 100 jets. From different sources the order will include a new long-range widebody, B757 replacement, and narrow body replacement aircraft. These aircraft would be in addition to the firm 37 A320 family aircraft and the firm 25 EMB-190 aircraft (with 32 options) orders, and could adjust the A350 order.

Here is what I know:

- According to the CLT Observer on February 10, US Airways spokesman Phil Gee said the airline would likely acquire a widebody plane such as the B777 or Airbus A340 (for China and other new service).

- During the most recent PHX Crew News Broadcast on theHub.com, Doug Parker indicated the company is talking to both Boeing and Airbus about a new aircraft order for about 100 aircraft for B757 and B737 replacements.

- Numerous news media reports indicate US Airways is talking with both Boeing and Airbus for about 60 narrowbody aircraft to replace the B737s (part of the 100 total).

How many times has this happened with the Airbus? I have read in Aviation Week that over the last 10 years many airlines have been dissapointed with the 330/340 as the range and payload were not what was advertised. The latest Air Canada order just confirms this. All that being said, I have little doubt that Airways will order the Airbus, why?? because they have proven time and time again they will trip over a dollar to pick up a nickel.

Doesn't our management at US do the same? 😉
