MCI TRANSPLANT:
Somewhat of a the same scenario exists art JFK between the AAers and the TWAers. You are right, there are two sides to every story.
There are more than two sides. There is a side for every person involved.
The JFK TWAers have been discussing their lawsuit since they started arriving at JFK 4 years ago.
Well as much as I've been around them I havent heard much about the lawsuit. Usually we talk about the things we have in common as workers.
When they get one more assignment than the other guy, they run to human resources that they are being treated unfairly.
Some people are still very upset about the whole deal with taking over TWA and some of those people may even be crew chiefs who may or may not knowingly pound some of these guys. As far as I'm concerned we should concentrate on getting rid of the TWU so we can restore our profession. Let it go already.
Let me tell you how unfairly TWAers are being treated. Last week a group of TWAers hit an aircraft causing damage while towing into hangar.
GUESS WHAT?
NO INVESTIGATION, BOI, REPRIMAND,,,,,NOTHING!
DO YOU KNOW WHY, MCI TRANSPLANT?????????????????
BECAUSE THERE ARE ALREAYD LAWSUITS FILED WITH HUMAN RESORCRES AND THE EEOC AGAINST AA BY FORMER TWAERS ABOUT UNFAIR TREATMENT. AND AA DOESN'T WANT TO ROCK THE BOAT ANY FURTHER!
Not to defend the company(just ask Former Moderaator) but I dont think thats the case. Its not the first time that an aircraft has been damaged without discipline. The supervisor was apparently satisfied with the explanation given at the scene of the accident.
THEY DON'T CLAIM DISCRIMINATION WHEN A FORMER TWA SUPERVISOR TAKES THE COMPANY VAN AND PICKS THEM UP AT LGA AFTER THERE WEEKLY STL COMMUTE! AND THEN HE SIGNS THEM IN AFTER MIDNIGHT..
YEP, TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY!
Well perhaps their flight was delayed and they had a big workload for the night so the supervisor felt it was in the best interest of the company, and the customers who were to fly out the next morning to get them to work as quickly as possible. While being picked up with the company van may be unusual, it also may be that it was the only vehicle big enough if there were several guys from STL stuck on the same flight. Since a large number of the JFK night shift is from STL and MCI there is good reason to maintain goodwill and flexibility. Lets not forget that these guys can not afford to relocate permanently and are trying to support their families while commuting 1000 miles each way. We often blast guys from low cost areas because they are insensitive to what we face, its hypocritical if we then treat these guys with the same insensitivity that we complain about. Teat them fairly because "there but for the grace of God go I". Treat them fairly then hopefully when they return to wherever they came from there will be someone there who can let the rest know what we face and maybe they will realize that its not fair for them to expect us to live off what they are prepared to accept there.
MCI, once again, not to defend the company, but on the issue of occupational seniority, the company left up to the TWU. In reality they had no choice, they could not legally dictate to the TWU how you were blended in as far as occupational seniority.
The company did give you full company seniority with all your sick time and vacation accrual. The company treated you better than the TWU.
You can blame the company for shrinking MCI, but logically should they have shrunk the brand new state of the art facility at AFW instead?
Hopeful and MCI Transplant, how is the banter between you two going to ever lead to improvements for any of us? The fact is that we really didnt have any say in the fact that we were to be put together. It was a shotgun wedding for both sides. Why blame each other instead of the people who were holding the shotguns?
