Aren't many of the South American gateways heavily controlled by slot restrictions. US holds none of these slots so won't it be much harder for them to start South American service as opposed to European service.

Doesn't the same apply to some Asian airports?

Brazil is the only slot resticed in So. America I believe and Tokyo. Europe is going to be the easiest to fly to, but with the open skies its not going to be a lucrative as in the past. Tel Aviv and Moscow are the best options, as also I wonder why Cairo is always ignored by US carriers. But these latter 3 would require 2 aircraft per pairing, as well as any Asian and So. America service would require. That is what Tempe is going to have to factor in its planning. Just plain and simple, US needs more Wide Bodies. Also doesn't hurt to have some for domestic.

Wow, could you pick two of the biggest unstable hotbeds in South America as gateways? ... ... ... I would not want a layover in either one of these cities!
Could not be more dangerous than Camden, NJ. 😀 😛

US has already said several times that they ahve no plans to fly to S.America. The main problem is that our hubs aren't as well positioned as others are (i.e IAH, MIA) nor do PHL, CLT, or PHX have the major o/d to SA that other cities do. I would guess that most travel to CCS or BOG is mostly VFF and that most of that is concentrated in a few cities, like MIA or NYC. Also, any expansion to deep S.America like Argentina, Brazil (if frequencies were available), or Chile would require longer-range widebodies. The one city that I feel might have a slim chance is LIM since there is a decent amount of tourists traveling to Peru plus whatever VFF exists. It could be easily be reached by a 757 from either CLT or PHL.

Assuming this is true-which I do. With limited numbers and types of A/C we have, where do we go or do we go anywhere? I realize this thread began with many(wishful)choices but can we realisticly? go any place new?

That is why I put If they Get Sufficent Aircraft to fly the Routes.

Ok,assuming we have sufficient A/C, would we be going to Europe?
Is the premise that we would do the long thin routes, that DAL and CAL seem to be persueing?, that would be lucrative? Of the european destinations included in the original 10 choices are these deemed lucrative or is it only wishful thinking, if so no problem.
Just trying to understand why these and not other euro, like Prague, destinations?

The poll options left me with only 10 options. I just rolled out 10 cities that I thought of. I wished it would have giving the option for write-in's. Just wanted to start something different on here, see what other forum users think.

Folks, first we need a reservation system that can handle international situations.

Lyon,France? NAH. If another destination in France is considered, I think NCE(Nice) would have much more potential.

With open skies in fully from 04/2008, Dublin
has been added year round and SNN shortened, do
you think they might axe SNN as they do not have
to fly there now that open skies is in?

Flights to SNN are very heavy through out the season. It is a good destination. They should also consider year round to Glasgow. and additional LGW during the season. We used to have 4 daily to LGW , 2 PHL, 1 CLT,1 PIT , now it's 1 PHL,1 CLT. We need to increase freq to the larger cities also . more to FCO, FRA, CDG. Could also add EDI (Edinburgh) and other airports around London. We also need to reinvigorate our Caribbean service. We have cut back Carib to favor of little profit domestic flts. The money is and will continue to be in international. But of course we need the aircraft to do these things.

How are the Yields on that flight to SNN? I always thought that they would do Ireland year round with the wrap around, PHL-DUB-SNN-PHL. It all depends if it was profitable. I would look at another option for that aircraft, being what other European cities are within the range of the 757? I would have thought Birmingham, UK would be an ideal for the 757. Also Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Berlin, Ger. would be good, as also Copenhagen. But they may be out of the range of a 757. With US giving FedEx 7 757's, there is 7 less to convert. Look out A319's. It doesn't hurt to have a few extra W/B's in reserve. Why fly 2-3 A319's on the same bank when a W/B can do the job, also eliminates 1-2 planes in traffic congestion as well. But that currently is not an option, but can e a few years from now.
