APA & USAPA: Our Common Interests
posted on March 07, 2014 15:53
Fellow Pilots,

APA and USAPA are committed to aggressively representing the interests of our respective pilot groups. It's what we do.

As we proceed with integrating the pilots of American Airlines and US Airways into one seniority list, we are certain to have differences of opinion. Did anyone expect otherwise? Seniority integrations are inherently difficult.

However, we must be careful not to permit those differences to compromise our ability to deal with other challenges challenges that we can most effectively address through cooperation. Whether upcoming joint collective bargaining agreement negotiations or issues pertaining to safety, security, training or some other vital component of our professional lives, we will achieve better results by working together.

With USAPA and APA cooperating on numerous fronts for almost two years, we've already seen ample evidence of the power of collaboration between our pilot groups. Our negotiating committees worked together effectively during the memorandum of understanding negotiations, which proved critical to bringing along a reluctant AMR management. Our respective negotiating teams have also devoted considerable time to developing a PBS memorandum of understanding. Our training committees share a commitment to pursuing a best-practices approach to pilot training at the new American Airlines. The USAPA Retirement and Insurance Committee and APA Pension Committee have made significant progress toward the establishment of a pilot-only 401(k) plan. Meanwhile, our officers and boards have met on numerous occasions as part of fostering an effective working relationship.

Most assuredly the world won't stand still for us while we deal with seniority integration. The merger of our two airlines will present us with a host of issues demanding our focus. Meanwhile, American Airlines faces ultra-aggressive legacy carrier competition, low-cost carrier encroachment in near-international markets and the rise of nonunion, state-subsidized Middle Eastern carriers with global reach. Fraternal squabbling won't further the interests of our pilot groups or enhance the competitive stature of the new American Airlines.

Recent jumpseat-related problems illustrate how we can work against our own interests if we aren't careful. Reciprocal jumpseat privileges are a valuable, mutually beneficial professional courtesy that we're able to extend to one another. Let's keep it that way and remember the old proverb "at home, me against my brother Outside, me, my brother, my cousins and our neighbors against the whole world."

As "brothers, cousins and neighbors," our two pilot groups soon to become one need to be unified. Whatever differences we have are far outweighed by our common interests.

In unity,

Captain Keith Wilson, APA President

Captain Gary Hummel, USAPA President
Riggggghhhhhhhtttttt.................(Morgan Fairchild, whom I've slept with!)

I don't see forklift on there. But there are some other very nice options. Send me your resume.

This is actually a pretty lame permanent bid compared to the last few. Lol.

There are NO new-hires and only 41 new Captain positions... Ugh.

There are 8 new wide-body Captain slots to fill (7 on the 330 and 1 on the 767),

29 new Captain slots on the A-320,

4 new Captain slots on the E-190.

Of course they continue to pull down the 737, so 11 Captains will be coming off that which will leave 30 new Captain slots on this bid.

One thing nice about this bid is a large increase in the number of primary lines on most equipment. So although a lot smaller than the last few, this bid will see pretty good movement throughout the system... 🙂

Well East, seeing as your species is pig, I can understand why you have so much drunken time on your hooves to post such endless stupidity.

Is there another permanent bid out from which some are again excluded? Things seem a bit more surly than an average day.

Wit of only the finest order indeed, which none even need dare try to match!...And truffles lie neglected, and in need of discovery in any case, so have "you'se" self a nice evening kid. 😉

You as well, might profit by refering back to the gentle suggestion of not taking yourself too seriously, just sayin'... 🙂

East Permanent Bid 14-03

Today the Company will publish Permanent Base Bid 14-03 for the East pilots. A copy may be found here, and is also posted on the USAPA Web site. It is a one-month bid effective for June 2014 and it will open today, Friday, March 7, and close Sunday night, March 16, 2014 at 23:30 Eastern time.

The primary bid drivers are:

A330: Increase PHL lines and increase CLT lines with seasonal schedule
B76I: Increase lines in PHL and CLT for seasonal schedule
A320: Increase lines in all bases in support of schedule
B737: Continue to decrease CLT staffing and lines due to fleet retirements
E190: Increase lines and staffing with seasonal schedule
Net headcount decrease of 14 pilots (new hires were added on the previous April bid and hiring will continue through the summer).

Wow, one year captain on the east, not to shabby!!!!!!

I guess it's safe to say you'd probably vote for Clinton if she ran.

Yup. Supported her in 2008, actually.
How does it feel to be on the losing side of progress?

Oh, God, I do pray that Ted Cruz gets the republican nomination in 2016.

I may just switch parties temprorarily to vote for him in the primary.

Yes,  PLEASE:  TED CRUZ, republican for President, 2016!  And Allen West as his running mate!

The "Dream Team" for progressives!

It's coming up on POR+90. According to the MOU it's time to select arbitrators. Of course, one timeline, the protocol agreement timeline, has gone by the wayside. So the timelines are obviously not set in concrete. Everyone has been assuming that the order of events is also set in concrete; specifically, JCBA first and SLI second.

When the NMB declared SCS in Jan 2008 our JCBA was still TBD and our ISL had not been implemented. In their decision (last paragraph) the NMB cited 'labor stability' as their goal and rationale.

What if the NMB does not wish to repeat the same mistake? They are not bound by the MOU. What if this time around they want a JCBA and a ISL before they declare SCS?

How about them apples?

My guess is that the NMB playbook is replete with boilerplate timelines and verbiage.  I doubt they even look at what is actually going on.
