west pilots choice,

Screw East pilots in the future or get screwed by apa pilots in the future.

What is best for you and your families future west?  Last chance to make a choice.

Pretend for a moment you are a man and make no excuses for the path you chose.  A new west leader needs to step up.  If not you will continue to be listening to information from those that have liberty underwear, that can not contain their voids, (pun intended) of information they provide, regarding your future.
"Please don't give me even harder decisions to make... I am still wrestling with the decision of whether to buy a $675 tie or face jump seat denials."

We now have a better picture what the East MEC had on the table:

an 8 year fence, furloughs by longevity (LOS)

Which means West Captains get furloughed before East First Officers.

East pilots stealing  West jobs if we furlough.

I'm sure that's the way you look at it. From a purely practical sense, if furloughs EVER got that deep we would ALL have been looking for work since there would not have been enough of the company left to survive.

You can take the "what ifs" to stupid heights. We wanted out attrition and NIC robbed us of it, but that is OK with you. NIC said we had no value even though time has shown the true value in this company was in the East franchise, but that is OK with you. You take 15+ years of a pilot's career and tell him it counts for absolutely nothing, but that is OK with you.

You seem to have no code or sense of value for anything but the West. What is in it for you anyway?

New hire Captains in the east. Would they be furloughed? Four stripes means you get paid more, that's all.

Traitor could care less about his fellow co workers, we all know that.

The Phoenix reps were finally able to get their update published. Our reps don't need JR's help re-writing their updates. I don't think they care if the politburo agrees with them or not.

Phoenix Domicile Update

March 30, 2014

PHX Domicile Update

The First Quarter Regular BPR Meeting is currently in recess. This was a unanimous decision by the BPR, and we plan to reconvene on or before April 22. We have some things we would like you to know which you probably didn't learn by reading the USAPA Communications Committee “BPR Updates”:

During a briefing by the USAPA Government Affairs Committee Vice Chairman, Pete Machtel, someone made a joke in reference to Pete’s “Patriotic Tie,” by asking if it was one of those “fancy $675.00 ties.” Not surprisingly, the majority of the BPR laughed at the comment. However, following Pete’s presentation, PHX Vice Chairman Simmons asked who made the comment about the tie. Gary Hummel responded that he did. David proceeded to advise the BPR & Gary Hummel that PHX believed his commentary was in VERY poor taste and warned the USAPA faithful to prepare themselves to engage in the same kind of fund raising in the VERY NEAR future. While Gary Hummel apologized for the tasteless comment, it is our opinion that Dave's message was actually a minor revelation to certain officers and members of the BPR. John and Eric would like to commend David for quickly and appropriately addressing this perceived insult.
On a separate note, Pete's briefing was informative and he did a fine job in the absence of GA Committee Chairman, Randy Dopp, who was absent due to the passing of his mother. Our condolences go out to Randy and his family for their loss. This serves as a solemn reminder of the many things in life far more important than our incessant union infighting. Hopefully that will not last forever.

Lastly, Phoenix did complain that this important committee has never had an active West member. In response to this, President Hummel solicited our input as to possible West candidates. A couple of names were provided and we hope to see the President act quickly to appoint one of them.

Apparently there has been some recent intermingling of Check Airmen usage in the simulator, East and West. We generally view this as a long overdue and positive development. We were not surprised to learn that the other 3 bases are vehemently opposed to such action (never mind that the AWA/US Airways merger consummated 7.5 years ago). In fact, the East BPR Members consider this an egregious violation of the MOU. We disagree, but as we prepared this message offering our alternative view, the other three bases (PHL, CLT, DCA) considered publishing an update on why this practice is such a travesty. We were prepared to ask that you ALL conduct yourselves in the same professional manner that you have ALWAYS done for the past 30 years and even encourage your interaction with these “East Check Airman” of the New American. However, before we had a chance, the ever-appeasing Management of this Company already capitulated to these East demands and assured USAPA that the practice will cease immediately. You know what they say, “the squeaky wheel gets the grease.” We are a bit stunned to see our new Management Team acquiesce so quickly. Could there be a lesson there for the former AWA pilots to learn from this? These people are our co-workers in a venture to promote safe & uneventful commercial flying. That is all.
West Negotiating Advisory Committee member, Capt. Ken Holmes announced that he will be voluntarily returning to line flying on May 01, 2014. This is not a resignation from the NAC, and USAPA will “buy” his trips on an as needed basis. This will allow Ken to pick up trips as he sees fit (like the rest of us can). Making any more than line average is not possible under full-time union employment for West pilots. This decision is a monetarily good thing for Ken Holmes and a solid fiduciary practice for USAPA. We would like to encourage other USAPA committee members to follow suit.
We will reconvene the BPR Meeting in April sometime to address the budget and finish a few resolutions. We do not think a few weeks will cause any harm to these pending resolutions, even if they are from the Phoenix domicile. Given the dwindling time left to finish these items last Friday, we thought it better to bring them to the floor when we have more time to address them properly when we reconvene.
We want to thank those that continue to participate in the elections. Exercising your vote is VERY important. Please continue to help us finish this race and stay engaged. It shouldn’t be much longer until we are represented by the Allied Pilots Association.

Finally, a note of special thanks to Roger Velez. Roger has truly “fought the good fight” as a Phoenix representative. His voice and counsel have been instrumental in making sure we are heard. If you run into Roger, PLEASE be sure to thank him for his service.

Warmest Regards,

John, Eric & Dave

PHX Domicile Update
The First Quarter Regular BPR Meeting is already capitulated"................

What a joke and waste of bandwidth, nice tie though!

If I am wearing a tie worth $675 I would be disappointed if no one noticed... But if someone noticed I paid $675 for a $25 tie I would be embarrassed.... And I wouldn't write a letter to everyone declaring the embarrassment.....

My verdict is the PHX rep DID NOT PAY $675 FOR HIS TIE... IT WAS COMPLIMENTARY. AND IT WAS A SET UP... a set up to get "offended" gullible West pilots to be egged on to BUY their own $675 tie...

The PHX update was a Liberty Necktie advertisement. Very slick.

Very breezy narrative with little information. I give it a C- due to lack of content, other than the tie advertising.
Cheers.

Quit one committee complain they have no representation on another and are upset about a 645 dollar tie comment, hey if the shoe fits, No shortage of whining from that group, remember it is unsafe for an "EAST" guy to ride a WEST jumpseat! Besides isn't a checkpilot "NOT ON YOUR SENOIRITY LIST" a contract violation? Till we get proper implementation of the MOU, shouldn't happen thank you USAPA!

The East franchise was so valuable the we went bankrupt twice and were headed  for Chapter 7 without this merger.

Nicolau is the one who said our LOS had no value based on that career expectation.

I don't make ethical decisions based on "what's in it for me".

Unless there's fraud involved I keep the agreements I make.

"Fortunately (or not), "old" US was required to file monthly operating reports with the BK court......

On 12/31/04, unrestricted cash was $738,032,000 and the ATSB requirements called for a minimum of $648,395,000 in unrestricted cash as collateral for the ATSB-backed loan. In other words, "old" US had less than $90,000,000 in spendable cash on hand. To put that amount in context, expenses were running over $500,000,000 per month and in December 2004 "old" US had an operating loss of $58,715,000 and a net loss of $87,832,000.

At the end of April, 2005 - the end of the last reporting period prior to the merger being announced - "old" US had $535,675,000 in unrestricted cash, which now included the $125,000,000 in DIP financing from the Air Wisconsin agreement. So "old" US had burned through over $325 Million of cash in 4 months. The ATSB minimum cash collateral amount had been re-negotiated downward to $333,000,000 in mid-January (but would rise to $381,000,000 by mid-May), so "old" US actually had just over $200,000,000 in spendable cash at the end of April. Expenses had actually gone up to $634 Million for the month but there was actually a small operating profit of $7 million (Thank you Easter). However, the net loss for the month was $30,628,000.

The key time was mid-January. The minimum amount of cash collateral (unrestricted cash) required by the ATSB on Jan 14 was $550,000,000. As I said above, on 12/31/04 the unrestricted cash was $738,032,000. On 1/31/05 it stood at $543,063,000. If the ATSB had not agreed to the second lowering of the cash collateral requirement in mid-January, the money would have run out.""

I suppose the West could have done a buck twenty five deal though too and got a new lease on life......
