American to begin crossfleeting this summer
American Airlines and US Airways are getting ready to take another important step in the merger in a few months, and it's much more than painting an A319 in the American livery. The changes will be visible to the public in just under two weeks.
The two airlines will begin crossfleeting this summer, where one airline's aircraft are used for the other's routes.
Charlotte, Miami and Phoenix will be the first two hubs to see crossfleeting. Chicago can be counted as it will see crossfleet flights from other hubs, too.
From Miami, US Airways will fly A319s to Detroit, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Raleigh/Durham, and Tampa. From Phoenix, American's 737s will fly to Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Newark, Santa Ana, and Seattle. They will also fly from Charlotte to Chicago and Miami.
All of these changes will take place on July 2. The flights will first be loaded in the reservation system on April 11.
The flights were supposed to be loaded on April 4, but there are still some pending changes. There are proposals from the network planning department to put American 737s on more Phoenix routes.
