Anyone know how the project is coming along? How many in service, and how is the installation going? Any trouble?

According to the dock plan, there are at least two in service, with a third in work.

Almost lost a winglet the first night we saw one at the hangar. Nobody mentioned to the guys on the floor about the 12 feet or so of extra wing from the winglet. Just doesn't fit on the old 757 docking lines, unless of course you want 3 feet of it buried in the wall.

Which brings up the question, what do they intend to do with these aircraft? Just save a little fuel flying from DFW to FLL, or do they actually have plans to expand on long, thin routes to Europe and South America?

From what I have heard they winglet equiped 757's will be used on routes to Hawaii and Europe.

Just looked at a pic of 194AA, looks nice with winglets...

There are four aircraft with the winglet modification in service. In order of completion:

5FD

5FB

5FC

5DJ

Aircraft 5EV presently in work.

They are far enough ahead of the dock schedule that the parts from APB for 5EV are behind. So Dock 6A-West head count will be cut by eight, naturally...

Obviously the dock plan was a little too conservative if they've done almost five aircraft in the time alloted for three. But this was uncharted ground, since only a few carriers have opted for the retrofit kits (most others either already had the attachment structure in place or came with winglets on delivery).
