Check the ATD Monthly Industry Update and you will see why the majority of the employees choose to be on the smart end of the stick. As others continue their downward spiral the AA employees worked together to help each other.

During the eighties workers at PAN AM repeatedly gave industry leading concessions in order to try and save their airline.

The TWU encouraged their members to give concessions to save their jobs.

As the company continued to spiral downwards the employees gave and gave.

As a result these workers invested many years of their lives into a company with a flawed business plan.

They were only successful at delaying the inevitable. By keeping the company going they delayed the expansion of the successful companies.

Their reward was an underfunded pension and the loss of several years of their lives that they could have spent working somewhere else for more money.

Most agree in hindsight that they should have given nothing back and let the company shut its doors earlier.

If SWA does take over to fill the void left by declining carriers with a flawed business plan they will eventually have the volume of work to do OH in house. They will need to hire more mechanics, and they already pay better than AA.

The question is will our sacrifices pay off in the future? No, because AA business plan includes our low wages as an essential component to give them a competative edge. In other words they are banking AA survival on our agreeing to work for less than the "low cost" carriers.

I find this unacceptable and would rather that AA find another way to compete. If they cant, then let SWA grow, do you really care what color is on the tail? Or is the weight of your paycheck your number 1 priority?
